I am thinking of the difference between, say, the Stones and the Beatles. Whose music is more precious?

But the question you ask, Bernard, is exquisite. What DO we want them to remember? The music, or us?

Seriously, though, some bands gradually morh into their own tribute bands - Battlefield Band, for example, and, to some extent, Fairport...

Really, it's down to market forces - when does a performer finally decide to call it a day? We know Harvey Andrews is retiring a year from now, but others just keep on going until the inevitable happens...

What memories do we want our audiences to have when we're gone/retired?

I asked my dyslexic friend which band had recently disbanded...

'Erm...' he replied...!

Is now the time for all good bands to realize they can't go on forever?
