Subject: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: saulgoldie Date: 04 Oct 11 - 08:42 PM I would like to add a cat song to my repertoire. The only ones I know of are "The Cat Came Back" which is not appropriate for my circumstances, and a couple by some very capable players who use tunings and fingerings that I cannot possibly make sound good with my more limited playing ability. I would like something soft and affectionate about the love of a cat, not unlike the dog song that I have mentioned here before (and I played at the Getaway). TCCB is cute enough. But it does not suit my needs. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Saul |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 04 Oct 11 - 09:05 PM That wasn't too serious a suggestion, but there are several cat songs in the database here. If you put cat in the Lyrics and Knowledge Search box on the main page, untick the Forum box and do a search you'll see a lot of them. (Sadly you can't search only the titles). Mick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: saulgoldie Date: 04 Oct 11 - 09:39 PM The Dundee Cat Song *is* cute. But I cannot use it. OK, alright. Here's the story. There is yon fair maiden whose company I would like to keep. (At least from what I know so far.) She has a cat that she loves. I want to impress her with a touching cat song. Geddit? Saul |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: Bert Date: 05 Oct 11 - 09:14 AM You could try putting this to music... THE TORTOISESHELL CAT The Tortoiseshell cat She sits on the mat As gay as a sunflower, she; In orange and black you see her blink, And her waistcoat's white, and her nose is pink And her eyes are green of the sea. But all is vanity, all the way; Twilight's coming and close of day, And every cat in the twilight's gray, Every possible cat.* The tortoiseshell cat She is smooth and fat, And we call her Josephine, Because she weareth upon her back This coat of colors, this raven black, This red of the tangerine. But all is vanity, all the way; Twilight follows the brightest day, And every cat in the twilight's gray, Every possible cat." ~ Patrick Reginald Chalmers (first published in Punch magazine, 4 March 1914) Copied from This website |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Oct 11 - 09:44 AM There are 28 songs in the Digital Tradition (alias DT or database) with the keyword cat. You can get to the keyword list from the sitemap in the dropdown on the main forum page. There are also 8 with the keyword deadcat, but it does not sound like you want those. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cat Songs? From: Genie Date: 05 Oct 11 - 05:00 PM That post above from "Severn" was actually from me. Severn was still logged in on my laptop when I got online this morning (didn't realize that until I saw "Severn" had posted but "Genie" had not). Here's a short list of "cat" songs in the DT posted by Joe Offer in another thread. And another good "cat songs" thread in the forum: Songs for Cats...Corrrrrrrr |
