Sunjay Brayne

by Pete Brown        7 October 2011

Mature, confident, relaxed are some of the adjectives that can be applied to the Sunjay's performance on Friday. But also are superb, brilliant, experienced, intricate and faultless; yes Sunjay's feature night was all of these. All this from someone who is only eighteen, I know a lot of musicians who have been playing for thirty years who would wish they could play this well.

Of all the songs he performed, which included most from his new CD 'Seems So Real' there are some that particularly stood out for me. His introductory Chris Smither song 'Love you like a Man', the tribute to the recently deceased Bert Jansch, One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer' and the Roger Brooks song, 'Wild Bird' were inspiring.

However he can ring the changes with different styles because we also had Buddy Holly's 'It doesn't matter any more' and the Mark Knopfler wonderful song 'Sailing to Philadelphia'.

All in all a magic night with support from Velvet Green, Roger, Chris, James and Bryn.

Good luck Sunjay for 22 October in Kendal for Radio 2's Young Folk Singer of the Year award.
