One of the most respected musicians in old-time music today, Beverly Smith is in great demand as a guitarist, singer and fiddler, as well as dance caller. A founding member of the Heartbeats, she is also a member of Big Hoedown with Bruce Molsky and Rafe Stefaninni. Most recently she has performed and toured with Carl Jones, with whom she recorded 3 highly praised CDs.

Alice Gerrard is a talent of legendary status. In a career spanning some 40 years, she has known, learned from, and performed with many of the old-time and bluegrass greats and has in turn earned worldwide respect for her own important contributions to the music. Besides her many solo ventures, she is known for her ground breaking work with the late Hazel Dickens, her collaborations with Mike Seeger, as well as with Tom Sauber and Brad Leftwich as a member of the old time super group, Tom, Brad and Alice.

Having been friends for years, Beverly and Alice are pleased to be pooling their considerable talents into this new project which includes wonderful traditional duet singing, fiery fiddle and banjo, and gorgeous original songs. If you are a fan of early American country music and strong women performers you are in for a treat!

Hi Nick - that was the Green Grass Cloggers in an otherwise GREAT clip. I think you mean this one of Alice and Beverly at Bridgewater, which I presume was excellently filmed by your good self.

Cheers
Ray

Terrific!
I caught Beverly and Alice in Southport last night.
Great singing, lovely personalities, and the banjo/fiddle pieces were just fantastic.
Don't miss them!

I'd just like to endorse the above comments. This is one of the most entertaining duos to have crossed the pond for a long time. Great voices, instrumental ability and versatility. If you like Old Time American music then you should grab this chance while you can.

I'd second Frank Sellors' comments regarding Sunday's Southport date - warm, intimate performance, heart-melting songs and spot-on playing. "Oh good" they said, "there's no PA system!" They were all the better for it too! Leith tonight - wish I could be there.

That was exactly the reaction, we got when they walked into the Royal Oak in Lewes.

They saw Rosie Davis stepping English steps during the tune session that we start the evening with - and they invited her up to flat-foot to their fiddle tunes. It was magical.

Really sad to have missed them - no gigs within reasonable distance for me at all. Maybe next time they get together for a UK tour they'll get to the Bacca Pipes, or to Pete Coe's club in Ryburn, they'd be ideal ...
(said he hopefully...)

I know that some people will find the following fact irrelevant, but I am amazed to learn that Alice is 77yrs old; however, in Alice's case that should read 77yrs young!
