Subject: RE: New Sarah Makem CDs From: GUEST,Eoin O'Buadhaigh Date: 10 Nov 11 - 04:26 PM I notice that on the 1st disc and also the 3rd disc the same title 'I Courted a Wee Girl' I take it they are different songs (NOT being pickie!) I can't wait to get my hands on the 3 CD set. Well done!!! |
Subject: RE: New Sarah Makem CDs From: MartinRyan Date: 10 Nov 11 - 04:50 PM Same song, different recording! There are several duplicates in the set where recordings were made by different people at different - and sometimes widely separated - times. This is interesting from the point of view of comparing the singer's approach to each song and the changes that occur. As GUESTRalphie implies, the sound quality inevitably varies - but the interest remains. Regards |
Subject: RE: New Sarah Makem CDs From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 10 Nov 11 - 05:16 PM Hi Martin. There were numerous diffent takes of some songs. It was a case of trying to decide the best ones! Both performance or technical quality. (could have ended up with a 6 CD Box set! Choices had to be made!) Looking forward to seeing/hearing the finished set. It was a pleasure to have worked on the project, and I hope it brings Sarahs voice forward for future generations to enjoy. |
Subject: RE: New Sarah Makem CDs From: Owen Woodson Date: 11 Nov 11 - 08:27 AM Does anyone know what has hapened to the new Topic Voice of the People set? That's the one which will draw exclusively on Peter Kennedy's field recordings. I ask partly because rumours of its imminent release have been circulating for ages now, but mainly because I've heard that one of the first CDs in the series will be devoted mainly or exclusively to Sarah Makem. |
Subject: RE: New Sarah Makem CDs From: Owen Woodson Date: 21 Nov 11 - 09:51 AM I've just heard that February 2012 is the projected release date. |
