Subject: Coupar, Speirs, and Watson From: BobKnight Date: 23 Oct 11 - 08:38 AM Following the departure of Pete Shepherd, Danny Coupar has joined Tom Spiers and Arthur Watson. Danny has a wealth of traditional material in his repertoire, much of it passed directly to him in the oral tradition by the likes of Jeannie Robertson, Isaac Higgins, and Davy "The Galoot" Stewart, to name but a few. I saw them on Wednesday at Aberdeen folk club where they did a short "taster" spot to let people hear the new line up, and I heard them again yesterday, (Sat, 22nd, Oct.) at a brand new festival at Potarch in Aberdeenshire where they were the headliners at the main evening concert. It's early days yet, but it looks like Danny is fitting in just fine, and no doubt you'll be able to judge for yourselves at a venue near you in the near future. :) |

Subject: RE: Coupar, Speirs, and Watson From: BobKnight Date: 24 Oct 11 - 09:19 AM Got my fingers rapped on another forum for spelling Danny Couper's name wrongly. Apparently it's got an "e" not an "a" at the end. Sorry Danny!! :) |
Subject: RE: Coupar, Speirs, and Watson From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 25 Oct 11 - 02:55 AM I always loved the music of Shepheard, Spiers, and Watson, and I'm sure Danny Couper will fit in just fine. But where has Pete |Shepheard gone? And why? Anybody know? |
Subject: RE: Coupar, Speirs, and Watson From: GUEST,Tom Spiers Date: 25 Oct 11 - 06:11 AM Nice to hear Bob enjoyed Danny, Arthur and me singing together at the weekend, but I'm afraid he has jumped to the wrong conclusion. Frieda Morrison heard the three of us jamming together at a session during the Portsoy Boat Festival and thought it would be nice to have us at Potarch to run sing-arounds etc. This was pretty much a one-off, and there is no intention of reforming Shepheard, Spiers & Watson as Couper, Spiers & Watson. Sorry if it has caused some unintentional confusion. Tom. |
Subject: RE: Coupar, Speirs, and Watson From: BobKnight Date: 25 Oct 11 - 08:38 AM Tom I apologise for any confusion - seems I got the wrong end of the stick. Ah well - these things happen - my apologies to Pete as well I'll now slink off and go into hiding for a few months and hope that everybody forgets about my faux pas!!! :) |
