Subject: Tune Req: 'Fröhliche Weihnacht überall'' - tune From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 25 Oct 11 - 10:33 PM Greetings All- I have been researching a bit about the German Christmas carol "Fröhliche Weihnacht überall'' http://ingeb.org/spiritua/frohlicw.html The interesting thing I have come across is that its earliest printed version apparently is in "Liederlust und Psalter", an 1882 German hymnal for Methodist Sunday schools in the Unites States, printed in Cincinnati. In it the tune is marked "aus England". However, it seems no one has been able to point to the English tune this may come from. You can hear it here http://ingeb.org/spiritua/frohlicw.mid there are scores available online: http://ingeb.org/images/frohlicw.GIF http://www.lieder-archiv.de/lieder/show_song.php?ix=200068 and plenty of Youtube videos of it including the Vienna boy choir.... Thanks for sharing. It seems to that it could have been a theme from a piece of Baroque music or it could have been a country dance. Thank you for posting. |
