Subject: RE: Can't find mine disaster song From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 27 Oct 11 - 06:02 PM I think the song you might be looking for is Woody Guthrie's The Dying Miner. It has: Dear sisters and brothers goodbye, Dear mother and father goodbye. My fingers are weak and I cannot write, Goodbye Centralia, goodbye. We don't seem to have a copy here on Mudcat (at a quick look), but there are plenty online eg: The Dying Miner from Pete Seeger (leoslyrics). It has all the bits you mention except the coat catching fire; what it has is: Way down in this tunnel of coal, Gas caught fire from somebody's lamp. But I'm pretty sure this is what you're looking for. Mick |
