I gotta a CD that was recorded and mastered of a workshop (mini-concert) I conducted 6 weeks ago an Archie Edwards Barbershop and it sounds good enough to put out... It ain't gonna make any money after costs but I'd like to have it as a promo CD when I go the the IBC (International Blues Challenge) in Memphis... I might sell enough to cover the costs... So I have a photo from the gig that just needs some letters transposed over it for the cover and then the back will be real simple... Just notes... Any free help will be greatly appreciated since I have no real computer skills... Help!!! B~ |

You need to send the largest version of the photo you can (if you send it via something like Picasa then it shrinks it, so just attach the file to your email) and tell me what the text needs to say. From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Nov 11 - 09:08 AM Bobert, I sent an email to the original party who posted the photos and asked for the full-size versions of the photos indicated. Picasa is set by default to reduce the size from original for web use and it's sometimes a pain to get it to leave the size alone. If he can attach them by return email (without going through picasa) I'll have a better file to work with. It's wonderful if NPR is in this, and if they do art it should be great, but in the meantime, I'll putter with this just in case they don't do the art work. :) I'm a writer at the university library where I work but in the last couple of years I've cranked up Photoshop and InDesign in the morning at least as often as I've cranked up Word. I'm beginning to get the hang of it. SRS |

Regardless, Roxio makes a CD labeler, that you could do yourself, or get someone to do it for you, (that would appeal to you). Anyways, good luck!..but watch out, in your eagerness to get out there, (via NPR or anyone else), that you don't sign it all away!...and regret it later..especially, if you use all your 'best' material! ...and remember, as I've warned you about before, though you don't like to listen, that you will be dealing with a large corporation, tied into the government...they may have 'provisions', that may not work entirely in your favor. You may wish to get your stuff out on a LOCAL NPR station first! They will do that....then check out the feedback..before making any long term commitments......and then again....ignore anything I've layed out for you.....oh, and don't forget to 'redistribute' your profits!!!!! Most CD joint charge about $1.40 each (thin jewel case, wrapped) so if I did a 100 that would be $140... Not too sure that the P-Vine would like that... CDs don't sell all that well if you ain't out there pounding away and playin' out a lot... That ain't me no more... Even when it was me, like when I put out "13 Shades of Blues" some 5-6 years ago, it was tough selling CDs... I gave away at least 100 of them to friends and other musicians and sold maybe 350 at gigs and CDBaby but when all was said and done, it was a pain... If NPR will do 'um and not kill me, who cares... I'll read the contract real carefully... Meanwhile, pics are in the hands of two Catters along with some linear notes... We'll see what they come up with... B~ |

The US patterns are different from the UK and there is a shitstorm coming in collecting societies and the divisions between performers rights and composers' rights particularly in relation to online and digital re-uses (including sampling). Incidentally, I'm WAY out of date on the US law on this aspect but did you even consent to the NPR recording? |
