Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: OlgaJ Date: 05 Aug 12 - 11:31 AM Hi Mo Right from the start this festival has clashed with the start of Whitby week. Its impossible to organise anything in the summer that doesn't clash with something else! Its not done the attendance figures at Moira any harm as more and more people seem to want to come every year. Quite a few do Moira Furnace and then travel up to Whitby on the Monday to catch the rest of the week, and several of us will be doing just that again this year! Cheers. Olga |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 Aug 12 - 09:01 AM Well, me and Mrs G along with son, daughter-in-law and 2 mini-gnomes are coming. Son and D-I-L are not big folkies so we only bought 2 weekend tickets as I know they will attend the saturday night ceilidh while we grandson-sit. Aside from that I have bought 2 tickets for the Sunday 'Navvies Wife' concert, which I am really looking forward too and we have 2 camping permits so we are not all in the same tent! (Ok - Only 3 nights but someone would end up killing someone else...:-) ) I know Son and D-I-L have a couple of plans to go to other places and my sister lives close by so we weill visit her as well so I know we will probably have too much to do! Can anyone recommend the 'musts' and, if possible, which sessions etc. don't require tickets as well? Things for mini-people to do would be good too - One is 3 years old and the other 19 months so I know someone will have to stay with them. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Mo the caller Date: 30 Jul 12 - 07:49 AM Nowhere on this thread does it give the date. Yes I know I could click the link. I did and found Aug 17 - 19. So it clashes with Whitby. |

Passed out the last of my fliers around the pub session yesterday and got a few enquiries this morning! Hope all the planning is going well and no-one is getting too stressed out! Only 18 days to go! Looking forward to it. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: OlgaJ Date: 29 Apr 12 - 05:06 AM Oh, and we've just booked a mini melodeon workshop, instruments provided. Suitable for anyone aged 8 - 108. You can learn to play a couple of tunes in an hour. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: MBSLynne Date: 27 Apr 12 - 12:33 PM Hmm..3.30 to 5.30 for the Mudgather leaves me with an hour and a half with no sing session. Can I shove another Loft Session in between the shanties and the Mudgather? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: OlgaJ Date: 27 Apr 12 - 06:58 AM Looks like we've got a very nearly full workshop programme. Song writing, songs for young people, guitar, two harmony singing workshops, spoons and bodhran. Bram Taylor will be running a big jam session on Saturday morning and there will be a canal side story walk with music and song. We've got a couple of presentation style workshops, one on poaching illustrated with songs and another on the monologue so there should be something for everyone. And before you start that lot you can prepare yourself for the day with a bit of tai chi.And all this before you settle down for the concerts! |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Monologue Man Date: 12 Apr 12 - 05:33 AM Thanks for the response from My guru always said. I will programme the Mudgather to 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., on the Saturady afternoon as requested. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: My guru always said Date: 12 Apr 12 - 05:26 AM Monologue Man, many thanks for thinking about the MudGather times! Could we possibly re-jig the times to 3.30pm-5.30pm (preferably) or 3pm-5pm on the Saturday, whichever works best for your programming? That way we won't miss too much of the afternoon concerts, hopefully! We would make sure we were cleared up in time for your next programmed event in that lovely room. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Monologue Man Date: 04 Apr 12 - 08:28 AM I have scheduled the Mudgather from 2.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. but the room will not be programmed again until 6 p.m. so you could carry on the Mudgather until 5.45 p.m. if you want to. Please advise me if you want me to put 2.30 to 4.30 in the programme or a later finish time. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Monologue Man Date: 04 Apr 12 - 05:32 AM I can confirm that the upstairs room at The Railway pub is available for the Mudgather on the Saturday afternoon of the festival and it will not clash with the story walk. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Monologue Man Date: 20 Mar 12 - 08:04 AM Please can Cats tell me how long to allow for the story walk. This will help with the programming to avoid a clash with the MudGather. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Cats Date: 19 Mar 12 - 03:09 PM This year I will be taking the Story Walk along the canal and telling tales of the early days of the canals [might even regale you with how I actually helped dig out the Ashby canal when I lived up there]BUT the really excellent news is that I will be accompanied by Ned Clamp and Patti Smith who will be playing tunes and singing songs connected with the canals. Hopefully this will be a very different session and we welcome all of you to join us with your own stories, songs and tunes of the canals. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Monologue Man Date: 19 Mar 12 - 02:56 PM Dave Earl and Brenda are both on the list of stewards for the 2012 Moira furnace Folk Festival. The stewarding organiser has had a family bereavement which has, understandably. meant that he has had to give priority to his family. He assures me that he will contact Dave and Brenda in the next few weeks and any other people who have registered an interest in being a steward. There are still opportunities for more stewards so if you are interested please go to the website www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk and complete the steward application form. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: Herga Kitty Date: 19 Mar 12 - 07:24 AM What a shame that this clashes with the White Horse festival at Grove...! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival 2012 From: OlgaJ Date: 19 Mar 12 - 07:08 AM As far as I'm aware the Railway will be available for sessions etc. as it was last year, as will the Woodman. I'm a bit remote from the organising committee as I am now living near York but I am in regular touch with them so I will pass on any queries if you want me to. I will nudge the stewarding organiser but I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't been contacted yet. |
