Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: dick greenhaus Date: 04 Nov 11 - 06:10 PM Considering the huge number of musicians no longer with us, I. to would like to see a permathread of Mudcat musicians (I include singers) who have gone on before. A bit more exclusive, and we could call it a family plot. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: GUEST,Tim Hague Date: 04 Nov 11 - 03:20 PM Matt Armour, greatly missed in the North Bucks area and at festivals, great songwriter and a man who encouraged everyone to perform. Ran one of the longest continuous sessions in the Vaults Bar Stony Stratford, over 30 years... RIP Big Man |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Charley Noble Date: 04 Nov 11 - 01:08 PM I don't think any of these Mudcatters have been mentioned: Billy the Bus (NZ) Barrie Roberts (UK) Dave Bryant (UK) I always enjoyed their posts. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: katlaughing Date: 04 Nov 11 - 12:44 PM Joe, found it, I think: Click Here. Another bit of eeriness...started due to a remark by Rowan, sadly lost to us, now. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: katlaughing Date: 04 Nov 11 - 12:39 PM Joe, How far back are we going? Personally, I'd like to see one specifically for Mudcatters. Some of the names posted above are so well-known throughout the folk world, it seems to me Mudcatters, whom most of us knew personally to some extent, may get lost in the shuffle. I'm looking for that thread for you. In the meanwhile, eerily, some who've gone on, posted to THIs THREAD I started years ago. Reading through it reminded me of another to add: L.R. Mole kat |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: katlaughing Date: 04 Nov 11 - 12:04 PM I was just about to write "Teresa Tooley." Also, Mudcatters Cranky Yankee, Giac, and Metchosin. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: bradfordian Date: 04 Nov 11 - 11:28 AM I did write in the liner notes for the Mudcat WATER CD that "I personally would like to dedicate the new Mudcat CDs to all our dear departed Mudcatters who have over these past 15 years given us a great deal of pleasure through their music and contributions to the threads" , hence I endorse a thread dedicated to these lovely folk. I also like Bonnie's idea of extending it to other people who have made significant contributions to our kind of music, whatever that may be. Whilst there are differences between the two strains, it seems a little churlish to have two seperate threads, so I go for the greater range and celebrate all under one banner. A couple of names to add from me; (one in each "strain")Teresa Tooley and Eva Casidy bradfordian |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Charley Noble Date: 04 Nov 11 - 11:22 AM And here's a link to Barry Finn's obituary thread: Click here for Barry! Barry Finn was best known for his research and rendering of traditional sea songs. He died October 16th of 2009. His CD Fathom This! is a remaining testament to how well Barry did the work he loved. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Silas Date: 04 Nov 11 - 05:11 AM I would like very much to nominate a much missed personality from the UK folk world, Vic Baker (Dudley Vic as we used to call him) AKA Professor Wingnut and half of the double act 'Dr Sunshines Pavement Show'. Vic was one of the nicest guys I have ever met and he was an absoloute genius at entertaining both children and adults. Dr Sunshines music hall nights at the meny festivals they did were the highlight of the weekends for many of us. Sadly Vic died in 1999 and I have always thought that the organising comittee of Bromyard Folk Festival should have an annual memorial concert or music hall night in him memory as he did so much for the festival in its early years. His partner Dave Hunt who sometimes posts here has written this lovley tribute to him - sorry I can't do the blue clicky thing. http://www.btinternet.com/~radical/thefolkmag/vbaker.htm |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Fossil Date: 04 Nov 11 - 04:54 AM John Makin (Mr John), well known Brussels folkie, singer/songwriter, all-round good chap, died last week. He will be missed, esp by the regulars at St Andrew's Church folk nights, which he loyally supported, despite attaining superstar status with his hit "Potverdekke! - It's Great to be a Belgian". Sympathies to Anne and all his family. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 04 Nov 11 - 04:30 AM I would like to post a little tribute to Kirsty MacColl. It is a shame that her talent is only acknowledged at Christmas. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 04 Nov 11 - 04:25 AM And Malcolm Douglas, of course Perhaps we should drop or change the subheading after "Honor Roll" to "In Memoriam" or something, because not everyone on here was a musician (in the strict sense of the word, i.e. performing artist); and of the famous, not everyone was a Mudcatter. I'd like to see both included and keep the categorisation wide, but it also has to be accurate. The "Memoriam" tag would show that they are no longer with us, but without classifying them. What a good idea this thread is. |

I'll delete or edit these suggestion messages once tributes are posted. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcat Honor Roll: Musicians of Note From: Beer Date: 03 Nov 11 - 08:13 PM Rick Fielding comes to the top of the list but someone who knew him well should fill in all the blanks. Ad. |
