Subject: The Gatty Folk-Song Collection
From: Paul Davenport
Date: 07 Nov 11 - 12:43 PM

Tuesday 8th November @ the Gallery, The Old Market, Rotherham 7.30pm
Paul & Liz Davenport will give an illustrated talk on this small but exquisite collection of songs from South Yorkshire. The collection, made in 1907 by Reginald Gatty accompanied by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, is made up of around 50 songs from a number of local singers. The material is rich, varied and almost unknown! We are preparing a publication for 2012 to highlight this important contribution to the canon of traditional song. Come along for a taster!

Sounds great, Paul. I can't be there, alas, but I hope the evening goes well for you - and I look forward to the publication next year.

I heard Paul and Liz deliver an early version of this talk at Bradfield this summer and can very strongly recommend it for anyone able to get to Rotherham tonight. There are some fascinating songs in this collection, and I'm looking forward to seeing them published next year. Hope the evening goes well.

Matthew

Nice idea Jack, talk to Sue Houston. I think WFW have a Facebook page that might reach her.

I don't know Sue at all (never heard of her before) and don't do Facebook - anybody else? This looks like exactly WFW's thing.

I've posted a message to the Facebook page for you Jack. Maybe our paths will actually cross at Whitby next year!

Matthew
