Yes, all that...and melting ice to contend with too. Global warming's big news in Alaska..but sadly, only amongst those who live there, as the rest of the world seems to want to pretend it ain't happening...

Juneau, where KT & Ebbie are, is quite a ways south of Nome & Anchorage, and is also reasonably protected from direct storms. This storm is large enough they will no doubt see the effects.

I hope everyone stays safe, no matter where they are.

My sister lives outside Fairbanks, so was a long way from this. Still, my brother got worried. Had an email from her this morning, as of then, all they had were a few flakes of snow.

KT, Ebbie, and others, please check in when you are able and fare well to you all (I don't mean goodbye, either!:-)

Significant storm surge expected tonight.

Don't know if the northern Asia, USA and Canadian fishing fleets are out on the Bering Sea in numbers in early November, but especially hoping all at sea come through the storm safely.

Hey folks! Thanks so much for your care. We're fine here, and in fact, enjoyed a gorgeous, clear, calm, sunny November day. I've not heard that the storm will come anywhere near us, and I've read that it's diminishing. Nome has gotten slammed, though, as have the villages in that part of the state. Send some good thoughts their way. Thanks, everyone!

Satellite views of the storm made it look like it was going to envelope the whole state. Glad you had a lovely day, KT.

I went to Mystic Seaport on 11/5 when several chantey singers were "on deck." Don Sineti said he was leaving the next day for Alaska, but I didn't get a chance to ask where he was going. I think he goes every year and may go to several places. I hope he and all the Mudcatters up there are okay. Also, I'm thinking of Jack Dalton who told stories at the 2011 Mystic Sea Music Festival.

Thanks for your concern! I haven't had a computer the last two or three days.

Juneau and Nome are more than a thousand miles apart, so that particular storm has not affected us. We are more likely to be affected by the weather in Seattle, etc. It tends to come north along the coastline.

Chanteylass, Don is heading to SItka, in southeast AK. The annual Whalefest is this weekend. If I'd known he was coming, I'd have tried to get there. I came in at the tail end of a performance of his, several years ago, and I've been wanting to hear him perform ever since.
