I've included a link below to a performance by Hedy West on Pete Seeger's old tv show.
At the end of song, Pete - off camera- can be heard to say "that's the real thing".
Hearing that should be enough encouragement to send thousands of folkies off in a hurry to buy a Hedy cd.
Fellside Records in the UK have released three of Hedy's best albums on a double cd set. This collection should be in the record collection of every self-respecting folky.
Hedy is so very, very good.
I had the pleasure - the very great pleasure - of seeing Hedy perform on a number of ocassions in the 60s, and she simply took my breath away!
For US readers, I reckon that if you bought her Fellside cd from UK Amazon, it could be purchased for around $22(inc postage)

Hedy West - simply the best! The Fellside CD consists of all three 12" LP's that she recorded for Topic whilst in the UK, only one of which had been released as a CD before. I did hear that Topic has some more material - not quite an LP full - which may possibly be released in the future. King Records of Japan also released her two Vanguard LP's on a single CD; this also is superb.
She was the 'real thing' not only in her singing and playing but in that she learned her songs from her family and that her father was a union organiser, so she knew all about the anti-union violence - as portrayed in films such as 'Matewan' and 'The Harlan County War' - that occured in the 30's.
She was a nice lady too and it was a great tragedy that she died too young.
