Is anyone able to assist with identifying the Irish song sung towards the end of Episode 4 of the 5-part BBC series The Story of Ireland (presented by Fergal Keane)? It is sung unaccompanied by a woman in a pub in Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry and is featured in the background to a discussion between presenter Fergal Keane and a pub patron on the status of the Irish language in the late 19th century.

A title for the song would be a great help…a set of lyrics and any other information about the song would be even better!

Go raibh míle maith agaibh! – Peadar (as an Astráil)

I see what appears to be the entire series in segments on Youtube - but can't pin down the clip to which you refer. Can you provide a link and an idea of the time?

Regards

OK Found it. It's "'Sé fá mo Bhuartha" - "The Reason for my Sorrow".

Thank you, Martin! The title you've provided should be sufficient for me to get all the information I need. I see there is another Mudcat thread exploring this song.

Much appreciated – Peadar

p.s. The second word in the title is more correctly spelled fáth . Gabh mo leath-scéal.
