Subject: Rememberance Day song by ex soldier
From: Big Al Whittle

This song was e-mailed to me today from a guy who used to live next door but one to me, when I lived in Nottinghamshire. He's an ex-soldier who used to play in folk clubs.

I think when people feel thay have access to a means of expression - surely that is what folk music is about. Perhaps its not the whole story and we need all these old ballads, and old dances and dance music preserved - but when your neighbour can write about something in a song, and you understand what he's feeling, and he's set it down for you and for anybody else to listen to - well I find it quite moving.
