Subject: Who Was/Is Marilyn Childs From: GUEST,Doc John Date: 12 Nov 11 - 10:12 AM In 1959 the State Department arranged for Cisco Houston, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Marilyn Childs to tout India. The first three are well known but can anyone tell me about Marilyn Childs. There's certainly an actress of that name born 1930; is this the person who toured India and if so, why? |

Subject: RE: Who Was/Is Marilyn Childs From: GUEST,999 Date: 12 Nov 11 - 10:46 AM The correct spelling of her name is Child (singular). That should help with a search. |
Subject: RE: Who Was/Is Marilyn Childs From: GUEST,999 Date: 12 Nov 11 - 10:51 AM 'Also along with Cisco on that India tour was folksinger Marilyn Child. Cisco describes how he and Marilyn mastered the India national anthem in the Hindi language. He marvels at how well the touring performers were treated by the people of India. He notes "I had one of the grandest times of my life there. I was sad when it was over." Cisco notes that the audiences in India were astonished by the sounds Sonny Terry could get from his small harmonica. Lee and Cisco then discuss some other performers of the recent and continuing so-called "Folk Revival."' Fixed the title. --mudelf |
