Does anyone have the lyrics to this parody?

Starts out, "I keep my pants up all the time, I keep them up with a piece of twine..."

If it indeed was a parody, it was one I heard Mr Cash sing his-self. I'll be back with the verse soon.

"I Walk The Line"

Better Lyrics:

I keep my pants up with a piece of twine
I keep my fly wide open all the time
I keep the knot loose on my piece of twine
Say you'll be mine, and you can pull the twine

Original Lyrics:

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

The way I recall hearing it:

I hold my pants up with a piece of twine
I keep my fly wide open all the time
I keep the knot loose on that piece of twine
If you'll be mine, then pull the twine

or

Say you'll be mine, come pull the twine

###############################

The first two stanzas are on the net.

I keep a close watch on the beer & wine.
I know the drinking limits that are mine.
"Should you be drinking?"
"Yes, I think I'm fine"
The copper (trooper) says "Please walk the line!"

I think my answers are so very true!
"Have you had many?"; "No, just one or two"
"Yes, at a stretch, it may have been a few!"
"I'm feeling fine"
"Just walk the line!"

Could probably do with another verse or two, but I may have imbibed!

Cheers

Nigel

Feel free to use, or to extend!

Cheers

As sure as night is dark, And day is light.
I keep that solid white line on my right. (US= I do all my driving on the right)
I keep my open bottle out of sight,
Yet still I find,
I walk the line.

Getting there!

I have heard it as

I keep coat
Tied tight with a belt of twine
I keep my flies wide open all the time
And when a pretty girl
Passes by
I pull the twine
I pull the twine

I keep my pants up with a piece of twine,
I keep my arms wide open all the time,
I keep myself wide open all the time.
Because you're mine,
Please pull the twine.

As I remember it, that was the way the Smothers Brothers did it.

To drink's a very very easy thing to do,
I'm sure I'm sober when the evenings through.
Though early on I may have 'called for Hugh'
Just one more time,
I'll walk the line.

Pulling those verses together:

Is it true that Johnny Cash made his fortune from collecting the change left behind in Condom vending machines, and that his name commemorates this?

We used to sing it this way onstage:

I keep my pants up with a piece of twine
I keep my fly wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the ties that bind
Because you're mine, please pull the twine

Subject: Lyr Add: COUNTY LINE (parody of I WALK THE LINE)
From: voyager
Date: 10 Oct 16 - 07:39 AM

Back in 2000, we came up with this parody of IWtL -

COUNTY LINE
(Tim/Nancy Weil)

Takoma Park is a city unified
With a single set of rules to abide
Our jurisdiction no longer us divides
We're doing fine....we moved the line

We've kept a close watch on this county line
We've lived in PG County most the time
Now they're tearing down the old street signs
We're doing fine....we moved the line

You see more people in the local parks
They say it's safer walking after dark
Police tell us there will be a drop in crime
We're doing fine...we moved the line

Today we're living in Montgomery
As a part of this new community
The zoning maps will show a new design
We're doing fine...we moved the line

They say this town's full of radicals and kooks
Who boycott lawn mowers, Burma Shave and nukes
From time-to-time we've been known to organize
Now we've combined....two county lines

Takoma Park is a city unified
With a single set of rules to abide
Our jurisdiction no longer us divides
We're doing fine....we moved the line

With apologies to Johnny Cash!

I believe Roger Miller made up the first version of the "Twine" song, and though I've never heard Johnny sing it, Roger did sing it to Johnny on the Johnny Cash Show.

Obviously others have made variations on Roger's version, but I believe he was the first. The New Christie Minstrels learned it from Roger and popularized it in the mid-sixties.

Subject: Lyr Add: I CROSS THE LINE (parody I WALK THE LINE)
From: GUEST,Gerry
Date: 06 May 19 - 07:54 PM

Here's a different parody, by Bob Gomez:

(Key of F)

I keep a clothes swatch on this d;:^o of mine.
I leave my fly wide open all the time.
My exhibitionism's by design:
Sick is my mind;
I cross the line.

(Key changes to Bb)

I find it very, very easy to be crude.
My songs about gay cowboys can get lewd.
Right now I'm writing while completely nude!
When I'm online,
I cross the line!

(Key changes to Eb)

I scored some pig and human DNA
And made some hybrids in my lab today--
Somehow that porcine person ran away!
I'm in some bind--
I crossed the swine!

(Key changes to Bb)

Went to a party with some freaky friends
Some dressed as Barbies, others dressed as Kens!
Transgenders danced with other intersexual blends--
Drank too much wine!
I crossed the line!

(Key changes to F)

I keep a clothes swatch on this d;:^o of mine.
I leave my fly wide open all the time.
My exhibitionism's by design:
Sick is my mind,
I cross the line!

Sick is my mind,
I cross the line!

Sick is my mind,
I cross the line!...
