Subject: RE: What about Jay Stielstra??? From: Cap't Bob Date: 24 Apr 02 - 10:51 PM GUEST, there seems to be much confusion about how to spell TITTABAWASSEE er/or TITABAWASSEE. I put both spellings in Google and got several listings of the river under both spellings. Hmmmmmmmmm? Cap't Bob |
Subject: RE: What about Jay Stielstra??? From: Spartacus Date: 24 Apr 02 - 11:56 AM I don't think Jay has any recorded material. Not studio material, anyway. There may be a soundtrack for the musical he wrote floating around, or maybe some home recordings. I also have DAT tapes of his last show at the ark, but I havent' gotten around to editing them to a CD yet. Mick: I live in the big city of Stockbridge. Subject: RE: What about Jay Stielstra??? From: Spartacus Date: 24 Apr 02 - 11:29 AM I see Jay from time to time in Ann Arbor. I ran into him at the Tap Room in Ypsilanti at an open mic night, and after a little badgering, he sang about four songs. (alone and acoustic) Luckily, I recorded them. I gave Jay a copy, I suppose if you want one you can PM me with an e-mail address, and I'll send you the MP3's. -Spartacus |

Subject: Grand Marais: Jay Stielstra From: GUEST Date: 22 Apr 02 - 01:26 PM GRAND MARAIS by Jay Stielstra ( Art Thieme, learned from Craig Johnson)
I remember her from another day,
But we swam without our clothes in Lake Superior's waters,
Eventually she got married to a jackpine savage,
Can she bake a cherry pie, Billy boy, Billy boy,
But she never skinny dips or drinks wine from a bottle,

Subject: Bank Beaver Lament: Jay Stielstra From: GUEST Date: 22 Apr 02 - 01:12 PM "the song" (original title "Lament for Jim Baker", now know as "Bank Beaver Lament") Will the whippoorwill call by the river tonight and the big trout rise to the fly; will old friends gather in the campfire light as we have in the years gone by? Will we talk small as we always have done and pretend to change not a thing? Will one of us there strum the guitar and pick out a song to sing?
Oh the Manistee River runs through Deward
Will she run clear as Stolichnaya
Will the weather be as unpredictable
Oh the Manistee River runs through Deward
Will the solitary mink hunt on her bank
Will the Manistee River give us a nod

Subject: RE: What about Jay Stielstra??? From: Sandy Paton Date: 01 Oct 99 - 11:38 PM Jay's doing fine. He recently sang at the Ark's anniversary shindig, and was kind enough to send me (at my request) a tape of one of the songs he included in his presentation: a great song called "The Road Less Travelled" which includes the line "I took the road less travelled, and now I'm really lost!" I'll have to dig up his address from the files downstairs, but I'll send it to you early next week. We'll be in Boston over the weekend, doing a "giggle" (small gig) for the Greater Boston Folk Song Society. Hope you can wait until we get home. Sandy |
