For those who may not be able to open the link I'll put the main post here. Also, if anyone knows David Delarre, from Mawkin, could they let him know, as his Mum is Diane's best friend.

PostPosted: Tue Nov 15, 2011 7:51 pm    Post subject: Regular poster here seriously ill: Diane Easby         Reply with quote

"I am posting this to let people know that on last Saturday evening, 12th Nov. I arrived at Diane Easby's house to discover that she had collapsed, and had been unable to get up. It is likely that she had been lying there for up to 48 hours, unable to reach her house phone and unable to use her mobile which had been stolen some weeks before.

I was visiting her at the end of an England tour and I am now back in Iceland. The ambulance staff who took her to hospital took both my English and Icelandic phone numbers and said that the hospital would call me to update me on her condition. As of now, I've heard nothing and I do not know which hospital she has been taken to.

I know very little about Diane's social circle or family contacts and am therefore not in a position to let people know what has happened. Given the state I found her in, it is also quite possible that Diane has not been able to inform people either."

I checked with Ian before posting this and he gave me the go ahead to put the word out just in case there are people on here who know her and who can help her in any way.

Bloody hell. Diane and I had our differences, but she is probably one of the most informed people on here when it comes to English Folk music.

Let us all wish her well.

Re Diane's cats, unless she has gone home or managed to contact someone to give them a key (in my view fairly unlikely), the cats are currently fending for themselves. Their plates were empty when I was there on Saturday, but as Diane had probably been out of action for 48 hours or more, I reckon they will have already started fending for themselves. They have a flap and there was no sign of them while I was there.

I have still heard nothing from the health professionals, who have my numbers and I don't know which hospital she was taken to. If anybody can track that down I'd be very glad to know. I can be contacted via Facebook.

As far as I remember (I have been there, but it was a few years ago) her house is on or near Green Lanes in North London.

We need a posting from somebody who actually knows where she is and how she is - guesswork won't help much.

I am in London at the moment - is there anything we can do here? Anybody know where she is yet?

Same thing happened to Jim Johnstone the Scottish accordionist a few years ago. He was luckyt o survive.

The cats will check in looking for food in the old home, so if some food bowls are left for them near the catflap they'll be waiting for Diane when she gets back home.

I have just phoned North Middlesex Hospital. Diane is the Oncology Ward, and is lucid and would appreciate a visit. (I spoke to a very helpful bloke with an Indian accent, didn't get his name).

Seems her main worry is her cats. I'm only here in London for a week so I can't realistically take that on. Can anybody here drop in to feed them?

The phone number of The Cinnamon Trust is 01736 757 900

I have just spoken to them. They need to speak to Diane personally, perhaps via a Nurse, and then, they will arrange a foster home to care for her cats until she is able to go home and care for them herself.

Can someone please arrange this if they are going to visit Diane?

I've just spoken to the nurse who is caring for Diane. She is going to pass the phone number of The Cinnamon Trust on to her and hopefully they will now step in to look after her cats. The nurse said this has been causing her much distress, as Jack mentioned earler.

However, if someone is going to visit her, could they please check to make sure this message has been passed on to her.

Excellent work guys! Power of the interweb eh. It's a relief to know that she is in the right place to be looked after and to know where that is. We can now try and get as many good wishes as possible to Diane at the hospital. She really needs to know that there are people out there who care. I think she has become very isolated as her health has declined over the past couple of years.

Re the cats, any caring for them will have to be done via Diane herself because the keys, which she kept in a secret place, were taken away by the ambulance crew.

If it´s at all possible for people in the Bounds Green area to get access (via Diane of course) her house could do with a jolly good clean, because she had clearly been unable to cope in recent weeks.

I had emailed her not too long ago, concerned that I had not seen her post in any of her usual haunts or her Facebook page, and got a nice reply back - so at that time (a few weeks past) she seemed in pretty good spirits, though the recent deaths of Mike Waterson, Bert Jansch and Ray Fisher were weighing on her mind; and she also said that she always thinks of Peter Bellamy around this time of the year. I knew that she was having hospital treatments and had already put two and two together but - characteristically - she downplayed them. It's a miracle that Chris was there and found her when he did. I know how much she was looking forward to his visit.

Diane and I have exchanged a fair bit of private correspondence over the past few years, so she knows already that I am thinking of her and how much I wish her well. I SO wish I wasn't in another country and could pop along to visit her in hospital.

Diane, if you see this, I know what a strong lady you are, I am sending you my love, and I hope to get to London before too long, when we can down a few.

Love,

Bonnie xxx

Okay, something seems to be happening. I phoned the Cinnamon Trust, who said the hospital social workers were the best people to deal with the cats in the short term, as they have a legal duty of care. I had a brief runaround with bureaucracy while they decided *which* bit of the system was responsible, but it worked out that Haringey social work were the right folks. So they're liasing with Diane on the ward. I'll phone the hospital later today to check how it's gone - will try to get to see Diane soon but it may not be today.

I've possibly known Diane longer than most here although there is a large gap in contact from about 74/5 until she reappeared some few years back. We worked together at CSH and she was a regular at the old Enterprise in Chalk Farm back in the late 60's early 70's when I was a regular floorsinger and later resident.

We had been concerned that there was little sign of any postings etc for some time but although an old acquaintance I had no close contact other than what most of us had. I knew that Chris was a close friend so expected some news when he was the club last Sunday but saddened by the news as it was. Still there is plenty of good wishes and thoughts heading her way and I hope to get across to the Hospital soon, being reasonably close.

Will pass on all the messages if she hasn't already seen them.

Regarding slightly differing address info, I'd imagine Jack's information re the ward name is correct. I was told to simply use 'The Oncology Ward' Best to go with Jack's 'Podium 1 ward' I think.
However, 'Stirling' is most definitely spelt 'Sterling' for I took the address details from the hospital's own website. It also includes'Greater London' in the address, as you will see in the link here:

It was Chris who came up with the "Podium 1" address - shouldn't make any difference whether you include it or not.

Bonnie, most hospital beds in the UK don't have their own phone, but they can often connect the patient to a ward phone.

Here's hoping the social workers have managed to locate and feed the cats.

A lot of hospitals now have a boom with your own personal tv and phone and you pay so much per day via a card system don,t know if this hospital has it but if you pay for the system you get your own phone beware though, if it is you do pay very high premium rates

I wouldn't worry about being a bother - if my experience over the last couple of years is representative, the staff won't mind if you keep it short and to the point. The staff at the oncology ward certainly sounded a pleasant bunch when I called, and they'll understand the predicament of somebody who is about as sick as you can possibly get and with nobody around to call on.

When I was in hospital after my heart attack the staff made it pretty clear that they didn't like the price-gouging private phone/TV rental system any more than I did.

I'll add my good thought and thanks givings for her return to health and home. So glad to hear her cats will be taken care of, too.

Over here, a patient in hospital is free to bring their own cellphone/mobile and use it except in cases where it may interfere with certain equipment. If she doesn't have one, maybe a pre-pay would be an option? I know the cost per minute is higher, but one can keep adding minutes via credit/debit card. May not be any more expensive than the hospital pay for tv/phone?

All the best from Colorado,

kat

Just back from visiting Diane in hospital.

Although outward appearances don't always give a clue to the inner health I'm pleased to say that she looked well, far better than I expected, so she seems to be well cared for where she is. A good thing that Chris got there when he did.

She is in a room by herself which can be quite lonely so I guess if anyone else can visit from nearby it would be appreciated. I'll probably get back there Monday afternoon. Visiting times were given as 2-8 pm but I didn't check if they are different at weekends.

Her first words to me were "What the hell are you doing here?" followed by how did I know. So I updated her and explained that we all know and gave her a copy of the 17 pages of mudcat messages which I think quite moved her (unread as yet before I left). Of course, as it was just the two of us we spent the time bitching about everybody ;-)

Seriously Diane was touched to feel the concern of others. I quoted what I could of a few messages and she tried to guess who it was but we didn't go through them in detail.

I could only stay a relatively short time as some physios came in to see her but will update again on Monday.

There are two of us, and possibly a third, who know why I'm posting these to quotes from the American wit, Dorothy Parker

Thanks for copying my fRoots posting here Vic.

Strangely though I posted here first (I thought!) and cut and pasted the message to the other place. I must have done something wrong like forgot the submit button or whatever!

Just to add that I thought Diane looked well and in fighting form!

I don't know how I missed the early part of this thread, but now that I see it -- oh, my!
Best wishes, Diane!
Having been on the receiving end of the odd scathage (deservingly so most likely), I must say I nevertheless appreciate your sense of humor and your dedication to music. I hope both your wit and your health return to full function soon.
Keep on the get-well road
-Glenn

Hello Ms Tam, yes I'm fine though still horribly weak at the knees. Thanks to all who sent good wishes - I'm gradually working my way through thanking all the card senders.

Diane

Are you still feeling poorly? Don't appear to be any posts from you since November.

I don't know how I missed this thread...I feel very guilty & distressed. Diane was one of the first to post, if not THE first, when I joined Mudcat to talk about The Halliard & Nic Jones. She was right there behind us from the off...a great supporter & champion. Diane, if you read this, I'm hoping you've still got my phone number & email. Please get in touch if you are able. I'm also wondering whether Ralphie has any more up to date news?

Good to see you here David! Diane very rarely posts here now (her Mudcat name is the Borchester Echo), but as you can see there are folks who give us reports on Diane from Facebook. Hope that you are able to catch up with Diane somehow and that you stay safe.
