Peter,
If you share your guidelines with us, I am sure you will get a wealth of simple recipes to make life easier and delicious.
Sorry - can't do anything about alcohol and beer. But maybe someone here can. Who knows...
Take care,

Best of wishes for whatever lies before you.

We have just had the BBc inthe ward Filming for a monday morning news item. I have been checked out, seems that all my arteries are narrower than they should be and the really narrow bit is on a branch which can't be stented, seems the a-fib caused the blood clot so I am going to get even thinner blood and then see the Cardiologist in Leeds to see where we go from there, I've had counselling for a lifestyle change and the regime looks tough but if I don't stick to it, well, rather not talk about it! I have read some real stories in this thread, I think I have come off quite lightley really compared to some others makes me feel a bit of a wimp! Anyway thanks for all the support, with any luck i will be home tomorrow evening.

Peter, thanks for giving us an update. Sounds like things are moving along. In 2005, when I was waiting to have my aortic valve replaced, the doctors took five months to make a "road map" of my bod, before they would perform any surgery.(I had a lot of issues.) I was able to stay at home but mostly in bed those five months. My grandson was just old enough to climb up on the bed and watch old black-and-white movies with me. Really helped time go by.

Anyway here's a little song I sang to my grandson whenever we needed to be more patient> (Know that the doctors know their stuff and if they're taking their time it's usually a good thing and I am giving thanks that that will be so in your case.) Here's that little song, think of it as being sung by a very slow, deep voiced turtle:

Have patience
have patience
don't be in such a hurry

When you get impatient
you always start to worry

Remember, remember( insert deity or non-deity of your choice) has patience, too
think of all the times
people have to wait for you!

With thanks giving for a speedy and helpful recovery,

kat

One step at a time, Peter. Let them sort out your surgery and meds. The tester and strips will get sorted out later.

Surely there must be a source for used machines - anyone in the UK able to check Ebay or other sources? The test strips are not cheap. My diabetic strips cost a small fortune.

Sit back and watch your $5/day TV.

The NHS is getting like Ryanair, a fortune for the telly, £5.00 perday.
Advised to get an IR self test machine so i can regulate the wafarin, costs £400 and the tabs you use are prescription only, the catch is that it isn't free to the over 60's and your GP has to pick up the shortfall between the cost of the prescription and the actual cost so you need their permission! Still feeling groggy, saw a couple of junior meds from coronary dept this morning, they are going to discuss my case this afternoon. They think the A-fib created a blood clot so at the moment are concentrating on blood thining, I have two partial blockages one is relatively easy the other is on a branch between two blood vessles and is apparently problematic. Dongle now working, a bit slower than the usual connection but better than nowt

Morning Peter, good luck with the Docs today. Sending positive thougts while working.

I once had a BP of 240/180, and hubby took me to A&E. It was either going to be a stroke or a fit. I chose the fit and got back to normal. Well, sorta normal....

Pete-

Thanks for posting. I guess there isn't a whole lot you can do but wait it out until Monday. But it's a good time for reworking a few songs, and maybe coming up with your own ultimate blues number.

I'm havin' hot flashes and my BP's 189/118,
I'm havin' hot flashes and my BP's 189/118,
The Doc's off for the week-end and I'm feelin' Pleistocene!

Well, maybe you could do better...

189/118

No offence, but you don't know jack-shit about bad BP.

The hospital asked me to stay overnight to drop mine from 203/164. The top number don't kill you. The bottom one can.

However, he never writes, he never calls . . .

As with everyone else, wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery.

There is no easy way to slow down in our modern lives, cos even if you retired, you work even dammed harder, and I've been trying to slow down for 6 years without any luck.
Remember how they used to tell us that when the computers and the robots got stuck in, we'd have the life of Riley (yeah, right ---old mother Riley)

I reckon its that cracking pace you you do your songs.....how about ballads?.....nah, second thoughts, forget that one.

A couple of quotes from Les Barker...
"Remember, there are bad days and there are good days, and this is one of them.."
"Never accept a drink from a urologist!"

I remember Packie Burn saying about worrying - There is NO point to it , as the only thing to worry about is your health ! IF its good , dont worry , if its NOT good , all you need to worry about is do you get better or not . IF you get beter , dont worry and if you dont get better all you need to worry about is do you go up or down ! If ou go up , No Need to worry , and if you go down , you'll be so busy
dodging Politicians , Tax Inspectors and the like you wont have time to worry , so DONT worry !!

I agree with rum. Try to take some deep breaths, make yourself relax and sleep. Try also to see it as a positive thing that they are NOT rushing. It will all play out eventually and worry does no one good. Breathe. We're with you.

hey Pete
at midnight 25 you ought to stop worrying about things you can do owt about - I'm sure your family are rooting and worrying about you too and worrying never does anybody any favours. So, in the nicest possible un-nagging way - get some shut eye (even if you don't think you can sleep)and try and relax and wait for Monday morning doctor activity for some answers for you all. Patients need to learn patience sometimes.
Sleep well.

Kendall went in to the hospital for a stress test - thought he would just have to do the test and go home, but the result was so worrying that they wouldn't let him loose. That was a Friday afternoon. He had to stay in the hospital all weekend as they were concerned that he could have a heart attack any time. They operated on the Monday. Seems that, unless it is really urgent surgery does not get done over the weekend.

Still sending lots of good thoughts your way Peter.
