Well! Brian, how are you?.Didn't see or hear from you in a long while.Last i heard was that you went up to Carlisle. Are you still playing?,hope so.Yes as Keith Price pointed out,Gina le Faux played Fiddle with the original Band ,but left to join Shetland Band'Home Bru'.He was replaced with the lovely Ken Dunlop,a really nice guy.Had some great times with the Band and went to Germany with them for a short tour.Take care,John.

Hey Brian! Nice to hear from you. I remember meeting you at the Red Cow in Richmond one night and I think the rest of the week we were both out at sessions together pretty much every night. Never ran into each other again after that, as I recall.

It was great fun playing with you, and thanks for the kind words. I think that must have been about 12 or 13 years ago - I wasn't long after getting married and yes, I was just about to move up north. We lived in Salford for a while then moved to Crosby. I don't know if you do the Facebook thing but it would be great to catch up.

Small world....

Hi Keith!

Thanks, I knew I was missing one!

I still reckon that night was one of the best versions I ever heard of The Isle of St. Helena, and also in the same set, The Maid of Coolmore.

Hope you are keeping well Keith, and still playing; hope all the other fiddles are still in full flight.

Best,

brian

A chairde! Greetings all!

My first visit here in a long time, I don't get regular access to the internet.

So after a long time they reformed?

Anyone here remember the original line up?

I seem to recall Shay Black, Tony Gibbons, John Kelly, John Murphy, something like that anyway. Am I missing anyone?

I think it would have been about 1980/81 and I think their first appearance was out at Whiston.

If Chris Boland is the one I think you mean, wow, what a treat. I had the privilege to play with him on a number of occasions before he moved up North.

Please pass on my best to all.

Thank you

Brian

Okay, we'll bear that in mind for next year - maybe use some 'ambience mics' and a small sound system to give it a 'lift'... I'd rather not go for a full-on system if we can avoid it...

So I'll order my tickets now then. A brilliant band, and a good mix of songs and tues. Only slightly disappointing that the accoustic in the Sarries didn't do a lot for them. The singing was particularly difficult to hear if you were sitting toward the back of the room.

Just to save you looking...

Ildánach came to a Singers Night last February, and we booked them there and then! Members include ex-Garva members John & Liam Murphy and Kevin Webster. Sadly, Liam emailled me to say that Kevin won't be able to make it after all: "We had a bit of bad news from Kev the other day. He recently had a scan and his back is a lot worse than we expected. Unfortunately he will not be able to do the gig."

John Murphy is a vocalist and multi instrumentalist, playing uilleann pipes, banjo, mandolin and guitar. Liam Murphy, John's son, is also a gifted uilleann piper and cittern player, who has played with some of the finest pipers at gatherings and festivals around Ireland.

Fiona Mc Conell, who hails from county Cavan, is the band's lead vocalist - her stunning voice is a joy to hear. Added to this is her musical ability on flute and whistle. The band is completed by guitarist Chris Boland, now based in Liverpool, whose knowledge of traditional tunes and songs is almost encyclopaedic.

Tickets from me - you save two quid by booking in advance!

Either send me a cheque (order form and postal address via 'tickets' link on the website), ring me, email me or PM me and we'll keep tickets 'on the door' for you.

The Sarries is an excellent restaurant, so why not join me beforehand for your evening meal?
