The technique for renaissance guitar (which I play) and baroque guitar (which I don't) is very different to modern playing on the right hand. If you do decide to buy one (I'd recommend it but you're right that you need to save those pennies) and you ever want any pointers, do please feel free to PM me.

Thanks, Stower, for posting this information. This is very much the sort of thing I have become interested in recently. A long-time friend of mine, with whom I shared a stage singing folk songs and ballads for many years, has, for the past few years, been singing in the local Medieval Women's Choir. And she has been slowly acquiring early musical instruments:   a rebec and a hurdy-gurdy so far, with more to come.

Another young woman locally who started out with classical guitar, is now playing the lute and the Baroque guitar. Fascinating stuff! I want to get my sweaty little hands on either a Renaissance guitar or a Baroque guitar—or both. But replicas of these instruments are a little on the pricy side, so, hopefully, in time.

Not likely that I can make the concert from all the way out here on the west coast of the U. S. of A., but I'll sure try to catch the broadcast or the seven day stream on the BBC website. Thanks again!

The Night Watch : Winter Warmer is The Night Watch's new show, an evening of mediaeval, renaissance and baroque music for winter and Christmas on period instruments. Expect the very earliest known English song (about the winter weather), French renaissance dance tunes which became better known as Christmas carol tunes, and 17th century broadside ballads about festive drinking and the Christmas spirit.
