Subject: Ballads in 4-4-4-4 From: Phil Edwards Date: 02 Dec 11 - 11:56 AM Just out of curiosity: how many traditional ballads are there in 4-4-4-4? The verse form, that is: four lines each of four stresses (as opposed to the more usual 4-3-4-3). Off hand I can only think of two: Lord Bateman and Thomas the Rhymer. Most of the obvious candidates are either in 4-3-4-3 or in couplets. Any others I'm overlooking? |
