Yes its funny how some men seem able to find the G spot just like that, whilst with the rest of us - well its just self gratification all the way really.

I think length of fingers might be a factor.

Guitars definitely have feelings. And I'll go beyond that and say that they have living souls. They do respond to love, they respond to respect, and they love being played well, taken good care of, and being appreciated for what they give.

Of course they do. My guitars and banjos seem to sound better than ever after they have been "Neglected" for a few weeks. I think its a response to them realising that they are still loved.

I've a few acquaintances who collect guitars like some people collect stamps, and I think, "What's the point of having instruments that you can't possibly play regularly?" Of course I know that they collect them for the joy of ownership or as an investment or because they have the collecting fever, but what a shame that these lovely things stand idle.

I have 3 steel-strung acoustic guitars, 1 tenor guitar, 1 mandolin and 1 violin. All of these have been bought for a particular reason and all of them are played regularly. With the violin in particular, the instrument sings the longer it's played.

So, Sandy - give your other loves a little hug from time to time. :-)

My ex is a fiddler and he said that Guitars and indeed any wooden musical instruments respond to being played and that the wood "comes alive"

I have a few poor neglected ones and a lovely parlour guitar i promised to pay attention to...guilt, guilt ,guilt....arghhh

I have always had a sneaky feeling that any wooden instrument has feelings. They are made from wood that was once alive, after all. Certainly they 'learn' how you play so it is often difficult when you try or buy a 2nd hand guitar to get it out of its old habits! However, I find that if I have the other guitars in the same room when I am playing one of the others, the sound resonates with all of them and that seems to keep them happy. I know when I have offended one because it just won't stay in tune!

....but using the BC Rich's strap on a newbie....oh dear! There'll be trouble!

Yes. They feel sad when they are not being played. And this is reflected in how they sound after a period of neglect. It's hard to keep them all happy when you have more than two or three. Unless you play them equally. It's the bane of instrument collectors. It's hard to keep them all happy. And a good argument for letting them go if you aren't giving them them what they need.

I recently bought a "Chinese" Great Divide which I have been playing for the past week. My Yamaha FG-512, my Eko J-54, and my BC Rich BW-4000 hang on the wall unplayed. The BC Rich also suffered the indignity of having me removing my favourite strap and attaching it to the new upstart. My Washburn electric and a couple of banjos also share my neglect. I feel especially sorry for the BC Rich which has been my main axe for about twenty or so years. This comming weekend I expect to play in four different places and intend to use the new intruder. I feel as guilty as a philandering husband but the excitement of a new conquest drives my ego. Does anyone share my guilt? :-}
