Thank you, Janie. I'm glad you liked my songs. I recorded some of them yesterday with the help of one of my teachers, who is also a musician. We are putting a full bluegrass band on the Upper Big Branch song, I'm excited about that. Thank you for you compliments. I am going to try to join Mudcat, and once I do I will PM you and tell you what part of WV I am from.

Definitely keep at it, SirCoughsalot. I liked all three of them.

As Joe said, you tell the Upper Big Branch story well.

Hope you will consider joining Mudcat as a member, or at least visit often.

Because I am from there and still go home often, I'm wondering where in WV you are.

Janie

Thank you, Taconicus, and everyone else again. A teacher at my school is going to help me record some of my songs on Saturday for a podcast that he does showcasing Appalachian talent. I'm terribly nervous.

Thank you, Joe. I agree with you that I need to loosen up. I still get nervous sometimes.

Nobodys bard, thank you! I'm glad you liked Bonnie George Campbell, honestly I didn't think too much of my performance on that one. I'm glad others feel differently.

Jeri: Thanks a lot!

leeneia and GUEST: I'll certainly try.

Thanks to you all.

Hi, Sir Coughsalot -
Hope you don't mind that I added your name to the thread title for clarity. I only had time to listen to "Upper Big Branch Disaster," and I liked it a lot. You tell the story well.
You seemed a bit stiff in the video, but that may be simply because you don't have an audience. A bit more expression could help your performance, and it would help if you could appear more relaxed.
-Joe-

I hope nobody has a problem with this. I just thought I would post some of my own folky songs and see if any of the great singers and performers here could offer any advice on playing/songwriting, tips, or constructive criticism. All is welcome. I am trying hard to get better. I am kinda uncomfortable posting these here, but a friend of mine suggested it if I wanted advice, since this is the only other place you'll find a lot of other folksingers.

Upper Big Branch Disaster
This is a song I wrote about the mine disaster here in West Virginia. I think the rest pretty much speaks for itself. I used Aunt Molly Jackson's Poor Miner's Farewell as a starting point.

Black and White Western
This is a song I made from the stories about every Western you'll ever see. It has an original melody, I think.

Talking Facebook Blues
My attempt to write something fast and funny that everyone (at least from my generation) could relate to.

Thanks in advance, everyone!
