Listening to The Tramp Song by Malcom Leggette I'm wondering if he has a nine string guitar with three added bass strings, or just tuned his guitar down to the 5th string G and the 6th string to a low C. If you listen to the song on Utah Phillips 'More Tramping" on his Loafer's Glory site it sounds like all the other strings are in standard tuning. I can get close to this using two "partial capos" but back in the twenties when this song was recorded there were no "partical capos". If anyone has any ideas about Malcom's guitar or tuning, I'd appreciate a few answers. Thanks.
