It records anything that goes through your computer as wav files. The TR pop-over resembles a hifi cassette recorder. Available worldwide UK c.£16. Click Total Recorder Early on I used Windows Movie Maker Audio for editing compilations but with restrictions and having to re-record to complete. Now using Mixmeister Express everything is far easier with added EQ and tempo changes possibilities (I've added sound to videos, Youtubes, Mixclouds and done DJ mixes). c.£35 Click Mixmeister Express For wav to mp3 I have a free converter (WAVToMP3). ~Baz~ |

From: Bonzo3legs Date: 25 Jan 12 - 10:20 AM Whether you can record from the internet or not is dictated by whether your PC has "stereo mix" enabled on the soundcard or not, and if indeed it can be enabled. It is on my work XP PC but is not on my home XP and Windows 7 PCs. The only workaround seems to be a programme such as isound, mentioned above, which is not free. This programme saves in real time so you do not have to wait like you do in Audacity for a file to save. |

Its just that you need to set up input as 'Stereo Mix' to capture the audio from your sound card. 'Stereo Mix' is usually already configured on XP. However with Win 7 you have to configure it yourself. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/39532/how-to-enable-stereo-mix-in-windows-7-to-record-audio/ ==== Beware with Audacity that its default for input is 'Mic' and anything recorded will be distorted. You need to choose 'Stereo Mix' for sound card capture. Also check Preferences that 'Software Playthrough' is unchecked. If recording through an analogue-digital conversion device such as Griffin iMic then you need 'Software Playthrough' to be checked. To adjust volume and levels you need to turn the sound up on the sound card. Then simply use the sliders for recording level and or o/p volume. But it the waveform that you need to watch. make sure that its not clipping on loud passages. If you also install all the NyQuist add-ons (free) you can adjust the waveform for all kinds of audio effects. The most basic is to lift the volume, or do simple fade-ins or fade-outs. But these add-ons can also filter 'pops' or 'clicks' from say 78rpm records. Incidentally you can record 78rpm records playing them at say 45rpm, then converting the waveform using a NyQuist add-on to increase the speed to 78rpm. To save in MP3 format you'll need the Lame decoder - free. Try to save MP3 files at about 192kbps or higher.

Audacity doesn't seem to have the capacity on its Mac download to record what's playing through the computer, and Audio Hijack, as far as I can make out, is no longer free. But Audacity recommends either using a loopback cable, to connect your line-out to your line-in, or using a free download called Soundflower - after pressing the Free Download button, go to Featured>Downloads>Show All in the left-hand column to decide which is best for your system. I've installed it, and it seems to work fine so far. |

You select the sound source - Firefox, Spotify, etc. - and record as it plays. You can then split, top and tail if necessary with Audacity, Garageband or any other editor. The recording level is set automatically. |

But I still can't find a way of recording from the internet. I'm running it on a Mac, and I've just downloaded the latest version. But, Arkie, I can't find anything about the soundcard, and I can't find the four boxes on the bottom toolbar. The only options I'm offered for input are Internal Microphone and Line In. In that past, I, too, have had to resort to sticking the speakers in front of the inbuilt microphone and then leaving the room. Any advice? |

If there are ways to TOTALLY prevent one from getting a copy, I haven't seen them...yet. Techniques vary because some sources make it 'easier', but it is always possible. (I sometimes get a program or video by finding it in the browser's cache...with a coded name... and renaming it and moving it.) |

I just recorded a program broadcast on the Arkansas State Univ. station. I located the station, opened Audacity, clicked on record and turned it off when done. I did have to amplify the sound. I generally have a problem with volume when recording from the internet. Which may well be because I do not have much knowledge or skill in using recording software. But Audacity provides an amplification tool which seems to work pretty well to my ear. Sue if you have Audacity or other sound editing software you might be able to adjust the sound with the mixing program. |

Actually recording with Audacity will most likely be simpler. 1. Download Audacity if you do not already have it. If given a choice select the beta version. 2. Install on your computer. 3. Open Audacity and check the settings according to my earlier post. 4. Open the program you wish to record. 5. Click on the record button in Audacity. And you are recording. If you have extraneous material at the beginning and end of the the recording it is simple enough to highlight and delete. |

From: Arkie Date: 11 Dec 11 - 12:40 PM Audacity is a free music editing program and with the proper settings will record anything that plays on your sound card. There is still much I do not know about Audacity including how to set the record sound level but it is fairly simple and works well enough for me. Once I have a recording, I highlight the sound waves and click amplify from the "Effects" menu. On the bottom toolbar you will find four boxes that will offer options which can be selected. In the first box I have "MME". The second will be the sound card which Audacity might find on its own. It should be one of the selections you get when you click on the little arrow on the right side of the box. The third box is the one that gave me some trouble. There are a number of selections available, but what works for me is the one naming my sound card followed by "Wave". The last menu box is a choice between Stereo and Mono. Audacity set three of the boxes for me. In the third box I did have to select 'wave'. However, when I downloaded the newer 'beta' version of Audacity I did not have change any settings. If you have not used Audacity there is an online manual that can be useful. To record you simply click on the reddish round dot whenever you are ready. |

If you have a program like Screamer, RadioSure or Tapin (look them up)...which are all dedicated to nothing but playing radio from various sources... you can usually just push a button to have them record what you are listening to. These programs come with thousands of stations pre-set, and you can add any you find that they don't already know about. You can also record whatever comes thru your sound card with programs like Audacity...and several others. You could possibly put your H2 into the loop, but by itself it won't directly access the radio program. I'm sure you'll get other suggestions. |
