Jake Wilson, Upstairs at The Mag @ The Goose Is Out!
Friday 13th January, Doors 7.45pm, 6
The Mag 211 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, SE22 8HA.

Jake Wilson is an excellent interpreter of traditional song and also is fast becoming known for his excellent self-penned material. He is also a highly skilled guitarist.

Jake has performed many times across London and the south, including FolkMonday and the annual Writeidea festival in Whitechapel.

We first met Jake when he came to do a few floorspots at the Mag. We were so impressed that we asked him to do a thirty minute slot supporting Dave Swarbrick at DHFC.

Swarb in turn was so impressed that he asked Jake to work with him on a musical project, and not only that - Jake will be playing with Swarb at DHFC on 24 February this year!

Jake will be performing the whole of his forthcoming debut album, "All's Well", a cycle of songs marking the centenary of Captain Scott's tragic expedition to the South Pole and honouring the five members of Scott's Polar team who died on this journey.

Oh, I had forgotten about the free sinaground. Alas tied up this Sun.

Jake sounds great - but it's a long drive on Friday the 13th!

A propos, I have replied at length and in detail to the club's recent email - I am a staunch opposer of the thing the email mentions (which we are forbidden to mention here) - if you become a member here and search my political posts you will see - although my posts are now (as the BBC used to say in Zambia) "created under reporting restrictions" and so just the tip of the iceberg to my opposition - where my politics really lie.

As, I think, you might have inferred from my comment about Liam Fox when I was last at the Goose, but I understand your wanting reassurance.

Hi Richard,

seen your email , and I think Sue replied to it , so everything is cool with us.

Jake is excellent, though I do understand it's a bit of a trek.

as for friday the 13th ? you're not superstitious are you?

Jake is brilliant, I've seen him a couple of times. His self-penned songs are really superior and he does that most fab rendition of Beeswing. Worth seeing.
