Subject: Session at Frittenden 29th Dec
From: GUEST,Gavin Atkin
Date: 20 Dec 11 - 04:36 PM

We're looking forward to a lovely night with favourite local singer Peter Collins and the wonderful Udimore hand bell ringers at the Bell & Jorrocks, Frittenden on Thursday the 29th December, starting at 8pm. (NB - this is the THURSDAY, not our usual Sunday night.)

After having had a rest and some time at home over Christmas, we're hoping you'll all be ready for another jolly evening of singing and music down at the B&J - I know we will be.

Peter will be giving his tremendous voice some exercise and of course we'll as the bellringers to chime in with their performances - but the format we follow at Frittenden is designed to make sure there's time for the rest of us to play tunes, sing dance and tell stories - or anything else that's entertaining and legal that you might have to give us.

The Frittenden sessions are an entertaining old fashioned and traditional pub evening with songs and tunes, and plenty of variety and good humour. If you've got a song, a tune, a stepdance or story, enjoy joining in with a chorus or just like listening in the bar, please come along. We go on until it's time to close with Nellie Dean the old way – just as people used to before the telly and the computer.

We look forward to seeing you on the night!

Gavin and Julie Atkin

Sounds like a fabulous evening. If our guests are reduced to one car-full we'll pop over!

If you are in England, I need to know: do you have a treacle mine?

I can recommend the evening at Frittenden, even when there was a power cut it was a good evening. We are playing at Patcham on Friday so I may miss this one. Have a great evening. See you in the New Year.

Thanks for the recommendation Alan!

Frittenden has many treacle mines - traces of them can be found in various fields and gardens, and there's a particularly good one at the back of the village hall. I can't promise you'd easily find one on a dark night in December, though there may be a local or two who could be persuaded to tell a tale or two...

We live in another village nearby, but it doesn't have treacle mines, though I must tell you that the soil can be very treacly at times.

Gavin

Thank you Gavin. Much as I'd love to attend, I'm in Canada. However, music's a good cause. I hope it's a wonderful evening.

That's a darn shame. Let's hope lots of locals turn up! They won't regret it...

Don't forget the Frittenden session on the evening of the 29th December Thursday) this week with Peter Collins and the lovely Udimore Bell Ringers!

For info about these sessions open to the public as well as musicians, see: Frittenden Sessions

The venue is the very pleasant Bell & Jorrocks pub (TN17 2EJ). It's the village's only pub so hopefully will not be too difficult to find once you're in the the area. For info email me at gmatkin@gmail.com or tel 07985 522734.

Gavin

I think more people compare Peter's voice to chocolate fondue than to treacle, although I could see room for argument. Every chance of a good night for singing...
