Alf Mac Lochlainn (died Dec 2018) - His son Colm, who died last year, is in the index and the link for him leads to a discussion which began when Mudcatter "keberoxu" started in 2018 as an obituary of Colm's father. |

Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Felipa Date: 26 Jun 23 - 05:22 PM I see that, Danny Doyle, a popular singer from Ireland who had hits with songs like The Rare Ould Times and Whiskey on a Sunday, hasn't yet got an obit. at Mudcat. Danny Doyle is mentioned in many Mudcat threads about various songs which were in his repetoire. He died in the US in 2019. https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/obituary-danny-doyle/38392965.html |

Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Felipa Date: 16 Jan 23 - 11:49 AM although Johnny Doyle doesn't have an obit thread, Pete, I did copy his obituary into the Music of Sliabh Luachra thread https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=155350 on 14 Jan 2023. While looking for the information, I also came across a more general article about Sliabh Luachra music which mentioned Johnny, so I added that as well. The obituary is above that article. Alf Mac Lochlainn (Ireland 1926-2018) is missing from the list. He is commemorated on the same thread as his son, Colm (1951-2022) who did make the list. I went to an Andy Irvine gig a couple of months ago, and one of the songs Andy sung was Alf's "My Son in Amerikay". Thomas Guthrie (USA 2016) has a Mudcat thread but hasn't made the In Memorium list yet. https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=124599 |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 16 Jan 23 - 11:10 AM I have also added Johnny Doyle and Mick Hand to the "Those who ought to have a thread but haven't" list. Thanks Felipa. |

Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Felipa Date: 14 Jan 23 - 08:54 AM another Irish melodeon great, Johnny Doyle, died just a day ahead of the better-known Séamus Ó Beaglaioch. https://gript.ie/jimmy-doyle-imithe-uainn-a-musical-giant-from-gneeveguilla-has-died/ I've copied that article into the Music of Sliabh Luachra Mudcat discussion thread |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Felipa Date: 12 Jan 23 - 04:16 PM I don't think anyone wrote at Mudcat when Irish flute player Mick Hand died in July 2020. Many people wrote tributes to, and memories of, Mick Hand at The Session website https://thesession.org/discussions/47308 |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 12 Jan 23 - 10:49 AM Seamus O Beaglaioch (aka Seamus Begley) has been added to the roll today. As always, there are some lovely examples of his art on the Internet. His music will live on. RIP |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Felipa Date: 04 Jan 23 - 04:04 PM Thomas Guthrie (USA) died in 2016 https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=124599 Gabby McFarland died in Nov. 2021. https://rip.ie/death-notice/gabie-mac-farland-derry-city-derry/513148. Gabby wasn't well known, but would have sung at sessions/song circles, sometimes solo and sometimes with her husband and/or children. Husband Jim McFarland is well-known in Irish and British traditional singing circles. I see there are some Mudcat threads announcing dates he was performing in folk clubs in England; in 2008, 2011, 2013, and 2018. I've heard him once on zoom since Gabby's demise. |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 04 Jan 23 - 11:48 AM I have added to people to the roll today, Austin John Marshall and Kevin Mitchell. Close in name but not in style although both were great exponents of their craft. Sadly I missed Austin back in 2013 so didn't include him then, but have rectified that error now. As his obituary says, he was pivotal in the folk revival of the 60's and 70's and was married to Shirley Collins at one time. He is also well known as the author of the poignant song, "Dancing at Whitsun". His style was mainly contemporary whereas Kevin Mitchell was a fine traditional singer with many superb songs in his repertoire. Both will be missed. |

Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 07 Nov 22 - 10:25 AM Today has seen the addition of Colin Irwin, folk journalist and Elizabeth Stewart, fine Scottish singer. Two people who did a great deal for folk music in their different ways. They will both be missed. RIP |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 24 Oct 22 - 10:39 AM Mary McCaslin has been added to the roll today. A wonderful singer and multi-instrumentalist. Thanks Mary. |
Subject: RE: In Memoriam From: Waddon Pete Date: 13 Oct 22 - 10:56 AM I have added Bill Sables to the roll today. (Finally managed to find a slot when Mudcat wasn't "down"!) He was a great part of the folk scene and will be sadly missed. |
