Thanks Jim,
Charlie Lennon has been added to the roll under those who ought to have a Mudcat thread but haven't! Perhaps you would like to start a thread for Charlie?

I've not been a member long... Looking at the names, I'm wondering who the departed were, what they did, their contributions, and I wish I'd known them.

I think this thread is a great idea, and I think they'd be proud of you, each one of them.

Fred

I have had a little trouble with my Internet connection lately so apologise if I have been a little slow in adding Kath Bainbridge, Tracy Schwartz and Tony Wilson to the thread. However, they are all now safely installed. Three fine performers all of whom will be greatly missed by friends and family. My condolences to you all. RIP.

Thanks Pete, I wasn't sure how often you check the forum for obits so added Francie McPeak here, before the thread dropped off the page.

I hadn't posted about Cyril before but decided to add him to the post at the last minute, his death was unexpected and a shock. Especially his singing contributions would have been appreciated on Mudcat. Sometimes it's hard to decide if someone is outside Mudcat's remit or the ouside the interest of readers here. I also didn't mention Charlie Lennon here who died during the summer. He's much missed by the traditional music community in Ireland. And I don't want to be the one who post obits all the time, even though I think it's important to acknowledge the people leaving us.

I have added Francis McPeake and Cyril O'Donoghue to the roll today. Two giants of Irish folk music who travelled the world bringing their music to a wide and appreciative audience. There is much to see (and hear) on the web. May they rest in peace.

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the information on Cyril O'Donoghue. I have added both the people you mentioned to this thread. I was already aware of Francis but usually wait awhile before adding so that there is enough information posted to help me give a fair representation of the artist.

All the best,

Pete

Rest in peace Laura. I know you will be missed by those who know and love you. RIP

John Foreman, the Broadsheet King, has passed away. He was one of a kind and he was a regular guest at my folk club where he was deservedly popular. He had a unique way of delivering his songs and material and also produced many books and broadside ballad sheets. He was very generous with his printing and gave me many of his products, '...as I'm having a bit of a clear out!"

Farewell John.

I added Bob (Deckman) Nelson to the roll today. He had a great connection with folk music, co-founding the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society. It's worth reading through the thread and getting a picture of the man. As Pushkara Sally Ashford says in her post; "He was as much a shepherd of those of us in the folk music community as he was a performer and archivist".

RIP Bob

some Irish people not in the index yet
Ted Ponsonby, Ireland Sept 2023 https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=172698
The Irish singer/folklorist Bill Meek, died Apr 2015; I gave some links on this thread 14 Sept 2023 and also on the obit thread for the recently deceased English William (Bill) Meek.
Alf Mac Lochlainn (died Dec 2018) - His son Colm, who died last year, is in the index and the link for him leads to a discussion which began when Mudcatter "keberoxu" started in 2018 as an obituary of Colm's father.
