Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: GUEST Date: 05 Nov 13 - 05:14 AM Had the pleasure of playing support for him at Bob Hills Gentlefolk club in Alcester. Stylish and precise should get in the studio. |

Not all of us Al, some kept the faith! Shame we can't persuade The Maestro Jack Hudson to come out of retirement and record an album of covers of songs written by Guy, Kris, Gordy, Kate Wolf et al. That would be some album! |
Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: Big Al Whittle Date: 23 Dec 11 - 05:22 AM What an aching pity the English folk community were too biassed , tone deaf, idiotic, brain dead, xenophobic and plain dumb - not to have championed the talents of Jack hudson. A once in a generation voice who did the definitive versions of guy Clarks songs. After hearing jack's versions - Guy Clark's own versions seemed a bit of a let down. Jack is a name that should have been on that track list. And quite frankly - its the world's loss, and England's shame. Love Joe Ely by the way - always have, but can't believe he would have done Dublin Blues as well as Jack used to. |
Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: evansakes Date: 23 Dec 11 - 03:16 AM Tribute albums can be patchy but this one seems top quality. Just heard 'Homeless' by Shawn Camp on the radio....it sounded even better than Guy's original |

Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: PHJim Date: 22 Dec 11 - 11:23 PM It looks very good. Sorry to not see Like A Coat From The Cold on there, but I guess you can't do 'em all. |
Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: GUEST,999 Date: 22 Dec 11 - 11:00 PM Guy Clark is awesome. He sings well and interprets with respect and verve. Damned-good guitar picker and fine song writer. I love his work. Also, I think that Homegrown Tomatoes is (are) brought to life with his take on it (JD, eat your heart out). Kinda song that makes ya walk stately and jauntily, all at once. |
Subject: RE: Guy Clark tribute album From: pdq Date: 22 Dec 11 - 08:47 PM I think Jerry Jeff Walker did a fine job with LA Freeway back when, but it looks like all these versions are recently recorded. Odd to see Terri Hendrix included is the list of top name singers. |
Subject: Guy Clark tribute album From: Stewie Date: 22 Dec 11 - 08:12 PM For those who may be interested, I have just listened to my copy of this superb tribute to a master songsmith. Check out the stellar list of contributors. This one's for him. --Stewie. |
