I was sat next to Nick at a session in Earby recently after a one day trip to Preston.   A very pleasant chap with a big warm voice and beautiful sounding guitar, worth listening to.   I live just north of London so won't make it.....   I only wish I could.

"I sat next to Nick" or 'I was sitting next to Nick". A pleasant experience in either case.

Guest henryp...

Here in Lancashire, 'was sat next to. is considered correct grammar!! ;o)

So is capitalisation of a name...!!

Examples... I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse... or... I helped my uncle jack off a horse!!

Hee hee!!

Thank you, Bernard - you're a saint. But I think the authentic Lancashire phrase is 'I were sat next to Nick'!

Anyway, the next opportunity to be sat next to Nick is tonight at the Kettledrum, Mereclough, Cliviger, Burnley.

Is there room for a vardo? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O8LyVnz9ls

I can't believe it! Nick, not a Northerner, actually says, 'They are sat round a fire'!

"Nick, not a Northerner, actually says, 'They are sat round a fire'!"

Ah, but he's been married to Mally for years and she speaks properly. That's where he's got it from.

As anticipated, we had another great evening with Nick.

Little-known versions of trad songs are becoming a trademark of this excellent performer and he announced that they will form the basis of his next cd - can't wait!

A gradely neet indeed! (in your language - "an excellent evening")
