Yes George, the bus service to the Town now is appalling. There was always a late night bus both ways but now it turns into a pumpkin at 18-40. It's a good job I don't like to drink in Peterborough. There may be some late B&B cancellations in Whittlesey at the moment. If you are interested send me a message. Gan Canny Brian

The George is now a thriving Wetherspoons pub, and if last year is anything to go by they'll have the sense to drop their usual "no music" policy for the weekend. They certainly let Pig Dyke dance there on the New Years Eve charity tour 10 days ago.

The musicians in the New Crown on the Saturday afternoon last year were great, and Rose, Chris and the staff have asked me to extend a warm welcome to any musicians who would like to do a repeat performance.

Thanks for the tips. It's been three years since I last attended, and then only on the Saturday, so am aware how sessions fluctuate between pubs. Sing-song in The Boat one year; Irish musicians, the next - you can never tell. The Newcastle students took over the New Crown the last time I came. Wasn't there something happening at the pub near the railway station at one time?
Is The George open this year? Someone told me it was being taken over by Wetherspoons, after being boarded up for some time.

Unfortunately, I am stymied by the last bus back to Peterborough on Friday, otherwise would have loved to see Pete Coe in concert!

I have been so involved with the "formal" events I haven't a clue what goes on around the town. Like a lot of festivals the ad-hoc session (song or tune) are just that and can change from year to year. I am reliably informed that there was a cracking tuned up in the New Crown last year on the Saturday afternoon. I was intending to try and get a sing somewhere on Friday night but it looks as though I will be running about doing stuff again. It will be good to see you next week end George it's been a long time.

It is the Bricklayers.
There's almost always a session of some sort going on there, but the pub's usually quite full.

The Pig Dyke party is on, as usual - it happens every year. Get there before the "house full" sign goes up. It's a ceilidh with lots of entertainment spots between the called dances.

Is is Bricklayers? I keep getting confused & saying Brickmakers! Anyway, that always seems to be the best place for tunes. Difficult to sing there unless you're a 'belter' as it's a very lively pub, usually packed!

There are none listed in the programme, not even Merek and Darys Saturday night at the Boat makes the prog, but there will be plenty about I am sure, last year on the Friday night we were not so keen on the concert line up and went to an event at St Andrews Church Hall with Pig Dyke Molly, a Ceilidh and a session/singaround, looks like it is on again this year, last year it was £3.

On the Saturday afternoon there were lots of Musicians in The Bricklayers and lots of the pubs advertising Musicians welcome so I am sure you would find something.

Can anyone tell me where I may find a song or music session in Whittlesey (or Peterborough) on the Friday night of Straw Bear, or Saturday during the daytime/afternoon? (Lugging the box across London on foot is optional unless the Mepal lads are desperate!)
