This song is a jail song I heard in the 1960-s, And it;s hard, with the doors all locked and barred. with the big long chains bound down to the floor, damn the fool souls, how could they do more. And it's hard times in the -----ville jail,Hard times poor boys. Anyone know this

I first heard this sung by Merritt Herring (no longer with us, sadly) in 1960 at the Berkeley Folk Festival. Cryderville Jail.

There are some really BAD renditions (emphasis on the "rend") on YouTube, but here's a clip from another web site, with Pete Seeger doing it. CLICKY.
