Let those tears out, Wendy. When you cry it may seem like you are falling apart when you are really doing what your body and mind need to do to keep going.

I'm sending love.

Nigel,

Billy and I were thinking of you and Ann on Sunday, I am glad it was a day full of memories and with your family around you.

Pete, so sorry to hear about Tommy, hoping he recovers quickly.

We have had a stressful week with Mother, the dementia is progressing really quickly and the " take me home" moments are more regular and very distressing for us all.Billy took me to lunch at the local Marina yesterday, a beautiful special place on the Walton Backwaters .It is usually not very busy in the winter but yesterday there was a coach trip from Kent so crowded. We had a lovely lunch and then were talking over our situation when I just started to cry and could not stop !! Not like me at all, poor Billy was in a tiz and didn't know what to do. I am sure no one noticed but I felt so stupid!! However we are going to London on Saturday to stay at Katies flat in Borough Market and the young are taking me out to lunch on Sunday, so I am sure that two days away will cheer me up!

I have contacted my lovely Admiral Nurse and we will meet up soon, I really want Mother to stay living with us for as long as possible but will be guided by her advice?

sailing on, its a heavenly sunny day here, will take a walk by the sea and blow the sadness away.

with love

Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just finished listening, Nigel. Had listened previously to 'Meditation." Had not listened to Sleep of Sleeps previously. Found myself closing my eyes and listening solely with the heart to both.

Thank you.

Thank you all for being with us yesterday. Ann & I both agreed at breakfast this morning that Jane's 1st anniversary was not as 'difficult' to bear as we had both imagined,(It's all too easy to slip into a self-fulfilling prophesy mode). The time spent with our Grandchildren was relaxed & fun with memories of Jane slipping into the conversations naturally & easily. Unfortunately, the 'chef' had decided to take the day off, so we ate out. Fortunately, 'The Bank of Nanny & Grandad' is open on Sundays!
One final hurdle in the diary of 'firsts' is next Sunday: 'Mothering Sunday' (Commonly referred to as Mother's Day). It is heavily promoted, commercially, so one is constantly reminded on TV & when shopping. Let's hope the spirit of yesterday prevails.
On a lighter note...gnu, can you take over my PR & publicity please? That way, I don't have to resort to 'shameless self-promotion' (-; (-; Sheet Music sales are modest to say the least, so Cancer Research UK does not benefit to the extent I'd hoped for.
In my thoughts today, especially are Maeve, Pete & Tommy, Janie, her son & his friend.
We send our Love to all our Dear Friends,
                                                                      Nigel & Ann

thoughts and prayer with nigel and ann today. may the fond recollections alleviate the bitterness of loss.

tommy is not too bad as the painkillers keep him reasonably comfortable, but gets a bit grumpy stuck in bed. thanks for asking.

Janie- early finish for your sons adventure ,but sounds like a good time, apart from his friends injury.

With the time difference I expect you will soon be with your grandchildren at lunch, Nigel and Ann. Holding all of you close and sending hugs. Will listen to your compositions a bit later in the morning, after a cuppa when I am more alert.

So sorry about Tommy's fall, Pete.

maeve, you have especially been on my mind this past week.

My son and his friend had to end their adventure a week early - his friend injured his back - not serious but very painful and could become serious had they pushed on and over-worked it. While they are disappointed, they still had a grand and challenging week of skateboarding through the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains (they had to stop just as the torain was getting easier.) They met many wonderful people, kind and supportive, had a newspaper article written about them in one rural county on the path, and are ready to attempt another long distance skate as soon as time, money and Nick's back allow.

Can't believe we have more snow in the forecast! I supposedly live in the South!

My thoughts and prayers for you and yours, Nigel.

The music is peaceful. I read the bio again while listening. It appears you have never retired. Good thing.

Retired, professional musician (do we ever REALLY retire?). My career began in the early 60s with the legendary folk group, 'The Halliard'. In '79, graduated as a Music Teacher (Studied Composition & Orchestration with Harold Dexter & Annea Lockwood) & Classical Guitar at Trinity College, London. Taught for a few years, but decided to freelance: Playing guitar (Sessions, Shows, Cabaret); Arranging & Composing for Chappell & Co., Boston Music, I.M.P. & latterly, Warner Chappell. Completed my full-time career back in Teaching at a High School in East London, retiring in 2004. In 2011, I set up nigelpatersonmusic.com to sell sheet music (Member of the ePartner scheme initiated by Faber Music). I now spend my time composing; some of the pieces end up on the website as scores/sheet music for download. I am a member of The British Music Writers Council (Musician's Union) No. 2725.

Today is Jane's 1st Anniversary. Ann & I will be spending the day with our Grandchildren. Our eldest Grandson is a superb cook/chef, just like his Mum. Lunch will be late, but well worth waiting for. I'm going to have to let my Music take over...if you visit soundcloud.com/nigel-paterson-music   the first two pieces were composed for Jane. She heard "The Meditation". It helped relax her when she became housebound. The final section was played at her funeral to provide a moment of quiet reflection. "The Sleep of Sleeps" was written after her death. It is a musical metaphor, open to many interpretations.
Stay close today as Ann & I navigate this uncharted course,
                            With Love to You All,
                                                          Nigel & Ann.

Pete, I'm sorry to read about Tommy's injury. I hope he heals well.

Nigel, I lost track of the date until I read Maeve's post. By now you have probably decided how to spend this day. perhaps it involves some music that she, your wife, and you enjoyed together, even some songs from her childhood.

Sending more love and hugs.

poor tommy. he fell over indoors and would not weightbear so we took him to a an e, thinking it would probably be a minimal injury, as he don't talk much but we ought to get it checked. they found a knee fracture and some unidentified lines in his leg. he is home with a temp cast till proper one next week. the possibility was suggested that his deterioration was affecting his bone strength .
we have care in today ,and we are booked to see the x factor show at the o2 . not really what I would pay so much to see, but as we know tamera and her mum I agreed. she got signed to simon cowells label last week. I expect she will do that modern pop stuff ,that I don't get!   now ,I could let her have a few songs........

Gnu, thanks for the Zappa link. I haven't listened to any of his output for years. As a consequence, I'd forgotten just how creative & ground-breaking he was. He produced a number of tracks with full orchestra which attracted some flak from the 'serious music' critics. His approach to orchestration was verging on "Everything but the kitchen sink", it has to be said, but Zappa loved working on a 'large canvas'. Yah boo sucks to the Music snobs!

"It seems that what we do in this place is celebrate one another and life within all definitions and meanings of the word". Janie, I couldn't agree with you more. Even when celebrating feels like the last thing one wants to do, a post will appear that changes everything. Sometimes a wise homily...sometimes some gentle humour...often a combination of the two. Either way, "Les Mots Juste" have an almost magical way of appearing, when they are most needed.

Dean, I'm relying on you to chart us a course that will bring us the calm seas & steady breezes we yearn for.

Having some 'puter issues. In the hunt for a suitable reconditioned iMac but could take a week or so. If I am unable to refresh or post for the next few days please know I am still aboard, singing, rowing, sailing.

I just looked up all the definitions of "celebrate."

It seems that what we do in this place is celebrate one another and life within all definitions and meanings of the word.

I come late to this vigil, this memorial...

Your situation moved me to tears. I have lost both parents and a brother to cancer, and am a survivor of my own serious bout some 40 years ago.

I am so so sorry for your loss. It is so unfair when a child dies before a parent.

My best wishes to you and your family. Hold on to each other.

I'll second that, gnu: "Happies to all". The sun's shining here in East London too, Wendy. Had a good 'domestic' day yesterday. The roof of our house needed some attention, as did the roof of our garden shed, which took a bit of a battering in the winter storms. All fixed cheerily & professionally by Dave & Dan...gawd bless 'em! Had to get the water company in as well to 'spring clean' the drains (details withheld, engage imagination if necessary!).

It is a beautiful sunny morning here in Frinton, I am in the salon and have one of my favourite clients due in a few minutes for a lovely relaxing aromatherapy, relaxing for me too with all those lovely oils. Then at lunchtime off to the beach hut with Billy for some lunch. I will read my book, he will sleep. Thanks to mum's carer we can have a few hours on our own. Just to reassure you my life is, generally, good and today will be a happy one!

My boy is on his way. Just left for the drive to the mountains. They will arrive late tonight, stay in a cheap motel and start out tomorrow morning on their longboards. Weather will be good tomorrow and quite bad for several days after. I'm the farthest west and therefore the last stop on their trip out of their home region. Good of them to check in with each parental household on the way out of town to allow hugs and good wishes.

Just want to note, especially to pete from seven stars, that I do not confuse the risks my own healthy boy is choosing to take, nor do I confuse my own accompanying fears, with the circumstances of Tommy and you, his mother and your family.

Wendy... it's the pitch that does the trick. A lower pitch will 'penetrate' fog better. I seem to recall a man walking home in the fog. He could hear low piano notes only and that's how we came to use foghorns in the manner we do.

Still checking in when I can.

Thank you for the video, Tam,

Nigel, good news, keep well. ( Had a cup of tea at the hut yesterday, in very thick sea mist, think it is called a " Haa" ? Very spooky but peaceful. We could hear the chug of boat engines but could not see the water! Last night could hear the fog horns in Harwich into the wee small hours. Does sound travel better in the fog?)

Janie, I can understand your concern for your son's trip, but as we say: It sounds like he's got his head screwed on the right way". What a great adventure! I'm sending him whoever or whatever it was that protected me during my rock climbing/mountaineering days.

Wendy, gnu's said it for me. Your sensitivity to your Mother's needs are remarkable. A lesson in Life & Living for us all.

Amergin, thank you for the refresh. Feels like a vote of confidence (-:

Gnu, thinking, hoping, wondering about you. Whatever your problem(s) is/are, it is my earnest wish that you be relieved of this burden soon & return to Jane's Rainbow to continue your voyage with us. You will be greatly missed in the interim.

I spent most of yesterday at a TIA clinic. I suffer from Hemiplegic Migraine, the symptoms of which closely resemble a stroke. Following the presentation of a new symptom after a recent attack, my GP made an urgent referral. Pleased to report that, after a battery of tests & scans, all symptoms would appear to be Migraine-related. However, it transpires, this type of Migraine doubles my chances of having a stroke, so as a precaution, I have to take 75mg of Aspirin each day. I feel relieved, but have not quite achieved 'peace of mind' status....yet! As Wendy would say: "Sailing on."
                                                                   With Love,
                                                                                  Nigel.
                                                                                  xxxxx

Janie, I'm sending your son and his friend my hopes for their safety.

Wendy, I am glad that Billy is holding steady and hope he continues to do so for a very long time. And clever you to find a way to put your mum's anxiety at rest.

Gnu, I'll miss you, wish you the best, and hope you will return here soon

Thank you for your good wishes, Wendy. Much appreciated.

Is this the song and performance you noted?
Someday, performed by Sue Graves and Brian Willoughby

Thinking of you and your Mum. Always learning, eh? Reassurance -finding touchstones for not only ourselves but for our loved ones whose anchors are now not always where those of us in the present can discern immediately. Challenging labor. Labor of love. Hit or miss, as long as the labor is guided by love there is no failure. Frustration? Yes. You are so insightful in rising to the day-to-day challenges of how best to manage and care for your mother. Hard, frustrating and demanding. Day to day, moment to moment, tend to yourself also - I think I understand you do so, understanding that you can not care for others as you do if you don't care for yourself also - but it must feel exhausting sometimes. The night is mild, the breeze gentle and the stars are bright. Come sit a spell here on deck, feet propped up, and sip on this nice warm cup of herb tea. We can spike it a bit if you like, up to you. You too, Linn and VT, and any other ladies and gents perhaps needing a little petting and making over, even if you don't realize it. Breathe in deep of the spring salt air and the gentle breeze. Let go with the gentle rocking of the waves on calm and sheltered seas. .....hhmmmm, hhmmm, hhmm, hhm every day, flashes like a stray blue jay....(Bruce Colburn)

Janie,

sending good thoughts for their adventure and angels to keep them safe xx

Went to the hospital today for Billy's three month check up, his consultant was very pleased ,blood counts good and he looks so well. Billy asked when the three month visit could be extended to six and the consultant said never, he wants to see him every three months as he is in remission. Brought home the reality that there is no " cure" for CLL But we came home happy, took our daughter out for a lovely lunch then sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine.

This evening mother had a bad moment, reduced me to tears saying " please take me home" after an hour of saying "this is your home mum" I tried a new tack " of course mum, we will go home in the morning" rewarded by the most beautiful smile .

Then I went on facebook to Harvey Andrews page and listened to a beautiful song he had written. sung at a BBC recording by a lovely lady singer and Brian Willourby ( cant do blue clicky but it is called " Someday".) Lifted my spirits as music always does. Beautiful song, beautifully sung, it is on U tube if you can find it crew?

loving thoughts to all the crew

Exciting and also anxiety provoking for this Mom. My responsible son (for a 20 year old) and an equally responsible friend are embarking on a two week adventure this coming weekend. They are long boarding (refers to a skateboard designed for traveling instead of tricks and X sports) with the intent to travel from the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina to the North Carolina Coast over a period of 2 weeks. They wisely decided to change their original plans from traversing the northern part of the state to the southern part of the state a couple of weeks ago for two reasons. The first being we are having a harsher, colder and longer winter than we have have in North Carolina for at least the past 15 years and the weather is likely to be less threatening further south. The second is they are less likely to encounter fear, hostility and agression further south. Over-all, I am relieved they have changed their route, and also think the southern route is safer simply in terms of torrain and wider highways once they are out of the mountains. The 1/3 leg of the journey, however, will be in much higher mountains, narrower roads and generally more demanding and dangerous road torrain for skateboarders and I am a bit anxious. So is my youngin'. Please visualize motorists who are alert and kind and non-resentful of people traveling along switchbacks who are not in vehicles and might cause one to put on the brakes without resentment.

I just thought this could use a refresh, to help counterbalance the shit that seems to permeate the cat these days.
