Will be holding you and Pat in my thoughts, including 'seeing' you relaxing on beautiful beaches by blue water with gentle breezes, away from the cold winds of Idaho.

Bloody wonderful.

Yesterday the doctor called to tell my wife, who is three times a cancer survivor1, that she's about to become a four time survivor. High grade ductile carcinoma in situ.

She sees two doctors today. We will also be going to Hawai'i as planned -- she says she can worry about it having fun as well as any other way.

1. Thyroid at 17, breast, skin.

Welcome Aboard, om and partner.

I knew from facebook he had been ill with pneumonia but had no idea he was still so poorly or what that has meant for you.

There is a sunny spot here on the rear deck, sheltered from the wind. Why don't the two of you settle into these chairs we just brought up from below, relax, and watch the dolphins jump in the wake for a bit. Here are two warm lap robes to tuck around your legs.

Thinking of you and your wife, Rap. Hope the biopsy results are benign.

Tommy still on the mend?

Holding everyone in my thoughts and meditations.

And whatever is going on in our lives, don't forget to breathe deeply now and then.

nice to see that Jeneve Rose Mitchell has made it to mudcat...we will hear more from this gal!!

I fine myself at my wit's end.....life has taken a turn since this fall when my partner got pneumonia (the new-not-the-old-monia) in November. He was mis-diagnosed twice by the clinic he had been going to, and after crawling into the emergency room, was declared "at death's door" and admitted to the hospital. He was released to home after a short stay, but ever since then he has been struggling with lung problems and complications including congestive heart failure, edema, cellulitis, and massive infections. the holidays were basically non-existant including thanksgiving, christmas, new years, and we have been in and out of hospitals, clinics, doctors, tests, pharmacies...on and on for months and months.

We hear more and more news accounts from some musicians in their 60's who have passed away recently from "complications from pneumonia" and are aware of the severity of the situation. He will be 66 next week.

I have been trying to hold down the fort...doing my jobs as well as his including feeding dogs, cats, birds and horses, mucking stalls, hauling hay, keeping the wood stove going, as well as keeping food on the table. To top it off, on our way home from one of our last trips to doctors in town (about an hour away) he was driving and feel asleep at the wheel. I was able to startle him awake and get the wheels turned back onto the road, but we came dangerously close to going over the edge near a steep drop off and it was very frightening. Now i insist on being the designated driver for all appointments, etc.

Poor guy, it is the only time he gets out any more and having been a professional driver ("big truck")for over a million miles, driving was one thing he felt confident about. Anyway, I am feeling quite overwhelmed and am having a hard time budgeting time to allow for all the tasks that need to be accomplished....laundry, bandageing, chauffering and zoo keeper duties have me in a whirl.

glad to have this group to find a sympathetic ear and shoulder to cry on. now i understand and appreciate what my mom went thru as a caregiver for 15 years with my invalid father (paralized from a stroke and not able to speak or walk much)....at one point she lost all her hair from stress!

I am trying to remain strong and brave but starting to crumble around the edges! thanks for all good wishes....

So, I pull into the drive, step out of the car admiring the new columns and all the work on the house that was completed today (four new exterior doors, a handrail on the basement steps, stuff long delayed because of things happening).

My mobile phone goes off. It's my wife. My pants are ready to be picked up at the sewing shop and, oh yeah, I'm have a biopsy and they're giving me valium so I'll need a ride home. She'd gone in for a followup on her mammogram.

I get the pants and I leave scorch marks in the air driving to the hospital.

We'll get the results of the biopsy Monday.

And I was getting ready for Hawai'i. And it's my birthday.

Nigel, sigh of relief here.

Janie, TIA means exactly the same in the UK, the so-called 'mini-stroke'. However, I'm relieved to report that all my tests came back negative. I have suffered from 'Migraine with Aura' since my teens...the symptoms mimic a stroke. Google 'Migraine with Aura' or 'Classic Migraine' if you want further info.. Needless to say, I'm relieved...feeling less threatened.
Very pleased to read that you've retired the wheelchair, Janie. Tangible, visual progress.
I want to express my sincere thanks to those of you who've pm'd/emailed me regarding the TIA investigation. I printed off your words of comfort & encouragement & took them with me. The Doctor's consultation room was wonderfully 'crowded'... I felt greatly supported. Both Ann & I shed tears of relief before we made our way home.
Sending love to our dear, dear Friends,
                                                                        Nigel & Ann xxxxx

What is the TIA clinic, Nigel. In the USA, a tia referres to 'mini-strokes" but I don't assume it means the same thing across the pond.

Hope Tommy is progressing. Hope Rap's 'sinister' side, in all quadrants are either functioning better or about to, post surgery.

Thinking of you Wendy, as you adjust to life without the long care giving of your mother.

And all the rest of you who I am not naming, sailing along with you, whether you are in safe harbor, sailing clear seas with a fair wind, or battling huge waves (and all in between.)

A little cheery note regarding moi. Have completely retired the wheelchair and only keeping the walker handy in case of ice and snow - figure 6 legs are much more fall-proof than three if there is real risk of slipping.

I think I can actually see the time when I will once again be Moving Lightly Through This World

I/we are honoured/honored indeed. 5,000 posts is testament to the many good people around the world who have given so generously of their time, wisdom, knowledge, experience & love of humankind. I like to think we have created & maintain something special...a thread that goes the extra mile...a thread that gives much, yet asks for little in return.

Wishing you well, Rap, and just research the surgeon well who will be doing the hand surgery. All such surgeons are not created equal.

Annie had multiple surgeries for both carpal tunnel and trigger finger done (the result of a combination of years of fiddle and guitar playing, plus wind and kite surfing which also impact the hands and wrists.) On top of that, she was in a terrible car wreck soon after the first surgeries, and was impacted by the pressure on hands and arm stuff from using a walker. And she has made out just fine - though does still pamper the digits and is very picky about all things related to the neck on a stringed instrument. No surgery will completely erase the effects of years of wear and tear, eh?

Kinda a scary to think about you seeing even more clearly than you already do, if you get my drift.

Now the left hand, and in late April the left eye. When the left eye is done I can hope that I won't need glasses anymore. Right now I just want the hand hurt to stop and my finger to stop locking into place.
