Yes, CL, the piece is coming together nicely. I've learned over the years that when you listen to what you're working on the next day (and the days after that) & it still sounds ok, then it probably is ok...so far, I'm in that happy position. My challenge now is to introduce some new material (whilst not losing sight of what already exists) to move the whole thing forward & then 'weave' all the themes together as the ending approaches.
Bruce...rest assured, this piece will be as good as I can make it. 'Perfect'...I doubt it, but 'striving for perfection' can be a great motivator! 'Music says things words don't'. I love the written word, but as you so rightly say, there are times when Words have to step aside & allow Music to 'say' what needs to be said.
A little update on Jane in Dubai. She's getting round to see all her friends, but in the company of one of her closest friends who travelled from the UK with her, in the role of a benevolent 'chaperone'. Jane is getting the rest & nourishment she needs, whilst still fulfilling her social calendar. She returns to London at the end of this week. Leaving her friends & Dubai behind is going to be particularly tough.

The piece of music I'm presently composing, working title: 'The Rainbow Crew' is approaching the 100 bar mark. That's about 4 minutes at the current tempo. Judging by the way it's developing, I think I'm approaching the mid-point. Another week or so should see the essential composing finished. After that it's all down to detailed editing, mixing & a final 'polish'. Other working titles have included 'The Ship/Voyage of Hope'. If you have any suggestions for a title, do let me know.

Our Dear Friends, what would we do without you & your Love, Thoughtfulness & Compassion. Your Wise words, Your Prayers...your Friendly & concerned chatter.
We spoke to Jane on the phone today ( Mothering Sunday in the UK). She is enjoying every moment of her holiday, but finding it quite tiring...resting, sitting still or even sleeping during the day was anathema to Jane...now she is having to learn how to re-prioritise on what she expends her energy. Gnu, you might just be right.

Jane will be away for ten days, she then has to return to the UK for her next chemo session. Jane, her husband & their four children have made many good & loyal friends during their time spent in Dubai. The next few days are going to be an emotional roller-coaster ride, knowing, as she does, that this might be the last time she sees many of them. Ann & I are thrilled that she received clearance to make the trip...we just hope she doesn't exhaust herself, there will be A LOT of socialising, parties, etc., etc..

My Dear Janie...thank you very much for the Words of Wisdom, I haven't actually seen them before...beautifully written & your timing is spot on. Gonna cut and paste something that many consider a cliche because it is so often repeated. Familiarity may breed contempt. We forget to really tune in and hear the wisdom.

One day at a time
There are two days in every week about which we should not worry - two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is yesterday with its mistakes and cares, faults and blunders, aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed. We cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone!

The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow. Tomorrow's sun will rise, whether in splendor or behind a mask of clouds. Until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow. It is yet unborn.

This leaves only one day - Today. It is when we add the burdens of two eternities - yesterday and tomorrow that we break down.

It is not necessarily the experience of today that disturbs one's peace of mind. It is often the bitterness for something that happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Let us therefore live one day at a time.

Author Unknown

Nigel, you can dance like Fred Astaire!

The Musical Entertainment side of our 'Do' is taking shape very nicely. FB asked if there would be any dancing...OF COURSE...just don't expect me to appear on the dance floor any time soon. In my head I'm Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Rudolf Nureyev & Margot Fontaine all rolled into one...the problem is, all that wonderful 'head dancing' NEVER reaches my feet...I'm quite convinced that my feet belong to someone else...exchanged at birth, that kind of thing! Those of you who are not terpsichorially challenged, sand off the soles of your dancing pumps & start stretching!
Now food...I would like to hire Phillip Harben & Fanny Craddock with her husband, Johnny...not so much for their cooking skills, more to do with entertainment value!
And finally, a heads up for Thursday 15th March...I may be off line for a few hours, possibly the whole day. Broadband in our area is being upgraded to fibre optic (FTTP for those what know about these things).

I omitted to say regarding our 'Fantasy Do' (thanks Pete), that as it is a fantasy, in the marquee, Time can be manipulated to suit our needs, so we can compress or extend ad libitum, so the number of musicians playing, the socialising...eating, celebrating, has no time boundaries. Once you step outside the marquee, Time is exactly where you left it...you rejoin the 'Real World' seamlessly & effortlessly.

I want to add Alex Campbell, Noel Murphy & Jennifer Warnes to my musician's list.

Very pleased to report that the Trad. Roast Lunch was excellent...and served in one of the nicest restaurants we've been to in a long time...a converted boat house, right on the banks of the Thames. Good food (reasonably priced by London standards), ambience, wonderful views of the River with plenty of boating activity to watch, & the bonus, which all Brits & visitors appreciate...the sun shone the whole day! Jane's been having a rough time after the last chemo session & Sunday was the first day she felt more like her 'old self', so the meal + good weather+ good company gave her a much needed boost.

I want to add Emmylou Harris, Holly Near, and Jez Lowe to my list. Getting back to food, I would prefer organic plant produce, free range chickens, grass-fed beef (though I rarely eat beef), wild-caught fish) dairy products with no hormones, etc. I may be an omnivore, but I try to make the best choices.

Kat, funny you should mention Mudcat on FB. I friended it and once in a while saw the Mudcat logo with a message on my Wall, but that hasn't happened for a while, and I knew nothing about the identities page. I went to it and saw no place for me to add mine. Then I went to Mudcat's Wall and had to request to join! I requested that and hope to be able to post soon. I have no idea what happened to my original connection to Mudcat on FB, though. I don't think I posted anything that would make me get unFriended!

Nigel and Ann, well, you know . . . . I hope you are having a calm and restful weekend and enjoying reading our ideas for a folk festival fantasy.

Well, if it's our fantasy and it can include those who've gone on, I want Rick Fielding to be there! And John Lennon. From those among us still, Art Thieme would be a must as well as many other Mudcatters.

CL, if you are on facebook, check out the Mudcat there. Folks have been posting who they are in real life & Mudcat.

Nigel, when I looked at your text in mod form, the O still showed up funny. I took it out, but not sure where you want a final "Lord?" It is in the first chorus text, so I figured the later ellipses included it. Please let me know if that's not correct.

Good weekend to you all, too!

Jean Redpath would be on my list, too. She was supposed to be coming to the Blackstone River Theatre in RI in April (I think) but had to cancel due to illness. And Gordon Bok would be on my list, too. He had to cancel his Stone Soup appearance tomorrow because of illness. Anyone know any more about these two fine performers? I hope they are both soon well. I'd like Bob Franke, Si Kahn, the Johnson Girls, and Mudcat's own Debra Cowan and John Roberts on the list of performers. Oh, and Eric Bogle. Then I'd like to add some of my own favorite local performers, Joyce Katzberg, Bill Harley, Atwater-Donnelly and . . . Uh-oh, this is like the awards thank-you speeches: I know I'm leaving out someone. Since I can't carry a tune or remember lyrics, I won't be performing, but I will be singing along, albeit off-key.

As for place, I'd like it to be on an island that has a good climate, all the amenities for comfort but not luxury, and not be too crowded (before we arrive) or too remote.

I'm an omnivore but lean toward vegetarian choices, but Kat's vegan foods would be fine, too. And Kat, I didn't know about Micca's last name. In fact I don't even know what that last name is! While I've begun to figure out some of the Who's Who on Mudcat, in some cases I still don't even know who is using his/her name or, like me, a nom de plume, and in some cases I'm not even sure if posts are written by a man or woman! In my case, at least, that last should be obvious! One thing I do know, and that's that I'm praying! ; )

As we're exploring a fantasy, along with the unlimited budget, musicians, bands, chefs, cooks who have found their place in the Great Concert Hall/Kitchen in the sky can be re-born & resurrected for the occasion.
Kat, that recording you've linked to is really beautiful. I said a few days ago that I wasn't a "God fearing Man", but I'm certainly not immune to the sentiments & depth of expression that this Hymn conveys. Thanks again to Pete for bringing it to our attention. That final 'O' with it's diaeresis appears to be some sort of typo, unless, of course, it's a special abbreviation. On the recording, the final word is: 'Lord'.
GUEST 'I Don't Know' asked how long our Fantasy Party would last. I can only think at the moment that it would have to include at least one sunset & one sunrise. This could have a bearing on where in the world we pitch the marquee.
Having asked all of you to suggest locations, musicians, chefs etc., I'm having a bit of a struggle on my own behalf...more to do with who I leave out, rather than who I include. Paul Simon, Johnny Silvo, Jean Redpath, The BBC Concert Orchestra get my musician's list underway...much more thought required.
With Love to You All & The Best Of Weekends,
                                                Nigel & Ann

Have to include Tom Paxton but Maggie & I would be willing to contribute a couple of songs. (Maggie is "She who is always obeyed" and we will be celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary later this year. Seems like only last year, but it was 1972.
Still praying (both of us)

Beautiful song! Couldn't find it on youtube with the Quarrymen, but THIS is a beautiful rendition, imo.

Where? Somewhere in the Scottish highlands or Yorkshire.:-)

The Chieftains, Mark Knopfler, Donovan, David Francy, Jean Redpath and a slew of Mudcatters

Anyone with delicious vegan recipes!:-)

Lovely idea Nigel. How long would it last?
Lands End or anywhere in Florida.
Oysterband, Snow patrol, Munford and sons, Missing Andy, all the Waterson Carthy family, the Wilsons, KT Tunstall, Richard Thompson, Billy Bragg, the list would be endless
Anyone who can cook better than me, our friend Craig Smith for one
