Oh, my! If I'd realized my post moments ago was going to be #4800, I would have tried to come up with something profound.

Off to New Jersey on Thursday, first time for 12 years. Have to admit Billy and I are emotionally and mentally drained, the past month has been the most difficult. Mother has had 2 falls, a choking incident and a suspected TIA, all needing paramedics to come out ( thanks to our wonderful NHS, they were fantastic)

We have organised 24 hour care and my daughter will be popping in every day.

So looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with Billy's four sisters and their families, and maybe a visit to Cape May?

with love to all the crew

Wendy xxxx

I have been experiencing upload problems over the last few weeks...i.e., the upload doesn't 'take'. I am Mac based & recently installed OS X 'El Capitan'...anyone know if there could be conflict between my OS & the Mudcat servers?

I wanted to say this recently:
"Perhaps we could describe gnu as 'simply profound'

Wishing everyone a 'calm sea & a prosperous voyage' (with apologies to Mendelssohn)
                                                With Love,

Nigel- Maybe ask Joe Offer via email?

How's Wendy's trip going, I wonder.

Lisa, I think of you daily. Please know that you and your son are in our hearts.

Tam, I wonder what you found when you arrived in the States for your family visit. Have you managed to sort the worst of the worrisome issues? I do hope you remember to take good care of yourself too.

gnu- simply profound sounds about right. You're a fine shipmate.

Janie- Sending you patience and fortitude as you recover a more active life. You had both a-plenty so you should be filled to the brim even when daily challenges seem too much to bear.

Bobert- Missing you here. Courage, laughter, and music are yours.

Been trying to find the words to share this on The Rainbow. My grandmother is slowly fading away. My mother, who has selflessly been her caregiver for the past eight years, is burned out due to other family members who live nearby being unwilling to provide even a five day respite every other month. I don't get down as often as I should, but the stress of being in a situation with so many feuding parties always ends up making me physically ill after every visit.

Hospice had been set up at home, but my mum just can't do it anymore. Her health is fragile, as well, so my gramma may end up in a nursing home. Which of course makes Mum feel guilty. She's deflected a lot of family criticism away from me, because apparently certain family members feel I should drop everything in my life and go down and take over nursing duties. I am not a caregiver. I have many talents, but that is not one of them. Replace the leaking showerhead, reglaze the windows, yes. Administer insulin injections, cook, and clean, not so much.

Anyway, just feeling like I need a hug today.

My dad was just getting used to the idea of going into a home of some sort before he died, and we (becky and I ) went to see one place the day before. Maybe grandma. Would be ok with it. Your mum would certainly have no need to feel guilty, as I expect she would visit often. I used to see my dad most days but my brother found it difficult, but he handled the practical jobs side, which would have been challenging for me. We do what we can , and there is no value in feeling bad about what we cannot manage.   Blessings.    Pete.

Huge hugs Tami and her mother, and lovely Maeve. The best words of advice I had was from Admiral Nurses "don't feel guilty" Tami I couldn't mend anything unless it involved sewing. Mouse's would never be gently caught and sent back to the woods! In fact I should be sleeping now but a tiny spider just caused me to shreek and wake up BB who is now making tea!! We all do our best to share the worries in the best way we can.We are off to Heathrow this afternoon and I am feeling guilty for leaving mother, but will think of that Admiral Nurse and her wise words!
New Jersey here I come!
With love and hugs

My eldest granddaughter re established contact with her birth father after he had disowned her most of her life and never paying maintenance. Now she thinks it's all wonderful. We hope she don't end up a mess all this. Her mum ain't doing too well with the stress of it all.       Blessings.    Pete.

SPB- "I feel I cannot do enough to help apart from being available on the phone every evening." But you are doing what you can do, and that's important to your partner. Losing a loved parent is hard. My condolences.

That's a part of what has made this favorite thread function successfully. We have tried to be consistently available for one another. I'm thankful we are here together.

On a day when I desperately needed a laugh, UPS delivered an anonymous package from Amazon.

I've been live trapping deer mice for the last month or so and had been having fun with it on Facebook, posting little mouse mugshots, naming them, and detailing their personalities. I even started a "guess how many mice Tami catches" game with my friends. Someone with a sense of humor sent me a field mouse finger puppet. I had a suspect in mind, and with a little detective work, I confirmed my suspicions.

I give thanks for friends who know when I need a pick-me-up, and how to do it.

My cousin Sean and I are going to try to do a Storycorps-style interview with my grandmother before she passes. I've sent out messages to the other grandkids asking for questions/stories they'd like to find out about. So far, everyone's on board. We'll try for on camera, but if Gramma's not up to it, we'll just go for voice recording.

That is a great idea, Tami. Wish my grandparents would have allowed that. We tried, but all Pawpaw would consent to be recorded was him praying for us for 45 minutes. That was not what we were seeking, but still a precious recording.

Ahhh, SPB. Thank you for inviting the crew to add wind to the sails of your love, care and concern to speed it across the land and sea to those you hold dear and to offer what solace we can.

Turned 64 a few days ago. Instead of losing hair, I am gaining hair. And healthier hair. From what folks say, the enforced rest and attention to better nutrition as the result of the accident has been good for my appearance, and presumably, my health. Having more dreams of being two legged again. Start serious outpatient physical therapy tomorrow. Rarely need pain meds, and even then, only occasionally at night.

I'll paraphrase something I posted on Facebook - Was annoyed to bite into a seeded grape at breakfast, having not paid close attention to the signs in the produce section. Then felt grateful that my life is such that biting into a seeded grape is something about which to feel annoyed.

My life is, and always has been, so incredibly rich. Part of that richness is owed to Mudcat and in particular, this stalwart crew.

To echo Frogprince. Thankful for all of you.
