Afternoon all,

back from a wonderful week in Norfolk, early nights, long lie ins, great food and shared the days with our extended family.

Only rained on one afternoon so Christopher took us Bowling, in 30 years of being together I have never bowled, imagine Billy's face when I beat him ( he was also beaten by Prudence age 5!!) He has begged me not to tell his sisters in N J as he will never live it down!

Spent a lovely day at Blickling , picnic by the lake and a stroll round the house and gardens. A day at Holkham Beach reading my book and watching the sea, even saw the Wells lifeboat go out. Had fun driving round the lanes near Cromer and Sheringham and Trunch       ( memories of the Kipper family made me smile!!)

The grandchildren enjoyed meeting again the grandchildren of my cousins family, there was 5 acres of garden right on the clifftop so tree climbing, badminton and building dens took up many an hour. Swimming every afternoon and then 24 sharing dinners round four tables pushed together to make one huge table, much wine for the adults and some frightening cocktails made by Ciaran and Christopher!!

Mother was so well looked after while we were away, eating much better and although she seemed very glad to see me on Sunday, I don't think she really missed me?

Just catching up with all the Rainbow crew and the news, much love to you all, positive thoughts to Nigel, Spaw, Karen, Tommy and Maeve.

Good to be back on board.

Wendy, your post was a joy to read. So many place names that bring back fond memories of my walking days. Is the Sheringham Little Theatre still open for business? It's good to have you back on board & a bonus to read your uplifting news.

      The consultation (with my Neurologist) went well, if 'well' is the right word! She is a real gem. She gave me her email sometime ago, just in case I needed to contact her directly & quickly. In my experience, Doctors rarely grant that sort of access. It always has to be via 'the proper channels'.

      Thinking particularly today of Wendy & her Family; Spaw & his Family; Pete & Tommy...anyone in our esteemed crew who needs a little extra TLC.

Yes The Little Theatre in Sheringham is alive and well. Christopher ( my son) has meetings with the manager quite often as he runs St George's Theatre in Great Yarmouth. Sheringham has a great success with " rep" but the Gt Yarmouth audience don't seem to be embracing plays at the moment but folk and comedy seem to be very popular.

He was telling me that he was at a meeting in Sheringham recently and was with his assistant manager Tom when he recognised a slightly scruffy chap talking to one of the staff. Chris said that he knew he had met him before but could not remember his name and he was coming over to say hello. One of those embarrassing moments he thought? So when John Hurt came over and shook his hand he had no idea who he was till Tom whispered in his ear ! He lives nearby and is a supporter of the Little Theatre.

Sun is shining in Frinton, Billy has taken the little girls to the beach hut while I catch up in the salon.

Have typed posts on successive days that haven't posted. I suspect the problem is I have too many windows open moving among different sites and have forgotten to hit submit before heading back to some place such as youtube to listen to music.

Spring is here - and I am determined to enjoy the reckless abandonment and risk taking the wild and the cultivated plants in my yard are taking in the much more variable weather than they are accustomed to.

Headed for the mountains in a few days, joined by my sister Annie. No one could wish for a better travel companion. 2 days of boring workshops that are business for me, then 3 days of wondering the mountains to enjoy spring ephemerals and stop on a whim at roadside and obscure museums and libraries on the search for both genealogical information and understanding of the culture, conditions and times of our ancestors, Native American and European alike.

Will be scattering some of Kat's ashes along the way, in wild and beautiful places. Sometimes to the sound of Annie's fiddle playing a mountain tune, and if a flat rock is handy on which to dance, I'll probably flatfoot or clog a little in joyous remembrance. Not just in remembrance of Kat, but in celebration of all of you.

Warm felicitations to all my shipmates and wishes for warm sunshine and healing rains of Spring. Sorry I have not posted of late. It has been very occasional lurking only until cognitive functioning kicked in again.

Still on anti-TNF with no physical relief. Just finished course of anti-biotics and still on anti-histamin. In the last week and bit, I've been on every anti-Tamara meds going. I know because still having allergic reaction to something. But it is not terrible. Bit of discoid rash on my face. Not itchy, just .... weird.

Otherwise I am good. I have a job that is interesting and provides much distraction from pain. Outside of work I am keeping busy with steampunk creations, inventions and modifications.

I finally put my pride aside and purchased a very small mobility scooter. One that can live in the boot of the car. I figured since the anti-TNF does not appear to be relieving the physical downside of illness, then I may as well buy the scooter now, while I am still working and have money to pay for it. I got the VAT amnesty which brought the cost down a bit.

Anyway back to steampunking modifications. I am currently working on making steampunk camouflage for the scooter when I take it to SP events. I have a veritible storm of ideas brewing. I've seen some pretty mean looking machines among SP friends. I want someting really unique. Something along the lines of the love child of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and HG Wells Time Machine. I already have this garden ornament clock/bar ometer/thermometer thing Tam's walker/transit chair which I have punked up even further. Kept the clock in the centre but outer rings have time travel gauges. One starts at "BANG" and finsihes with "RESTAURANT, END OF UNIVERSE." The other is a Chronogovernor. Well it is a start.

From Late Feb to just before last weekend in March I worked on new Far East steampunk outfit and my pride and joy, these Octopus Puppet twins Oskarpus Krakenworthy the Third and Oktavia Pussywillow Krakenworthy

The eyes took the most time. I had to create a socket to place them in then attach a fingerpuppet tube to back. So their eyes move with intenral manipulation. Adorably creepy. Oskarpus now has a little gun and holster and Oktavia will have a small porcelain Victorian doll.

So I have been very busy, but brain has been quite nonverbal while it has been creating and solving problems.

VT, every time I see someone using a mobility device, I think that person is setting an example for me and everyone else. Those people don't give up or accept confinement, and I hope I won't either. I am glad that structures have been altered to accommodate these devices. I am sorry, though, that pain is making this necessary for you. I am glad to read that work is a distraction, and I enjoyed those photos. Good work!

I've just returned from the National Folk Festival where I saw lots of mobility scooters & wheelchairs which enable older/less mobile folkies to participate.

One of my younger friends (40ish) has Cerebral palsy & has used elbow crutches all her life. Recently she developed a spur from the crutches & needs to occasionally use a motorised wheelchair. So she was zipping around the large festival site, getting to everything she wanted to attend & was not tired! She normally takes days to recover from a festival or other heavy activity.

tommy has reached age 15 today. when he came into our care about 11 yr ago we were preparing ourselves to lose him before his teenage years, being told that most myotonic dystrophy children don't survive.
we have certainly had some near misses but is still doing surprisingly well.
his cast came off yesterday for x ray and the doctor thought it was healing nicely. had tommy not been special needs, he would have just been told to be careful and not overdo weightbearing, but for safeties sake another cast was applied ,to be worn anther 4 weeks.
but he did go back to school today and seems to have been ok.

Just got back from choir practice, we finished off 3 hours of nitpicking Haydn by singing two of the movements from Brahms' Requiem - haven't sung those since we performed it last fall. Even for us nonbelievers there is such comfort in that music, and it was also a comfort to find we still remembered it! All good thoughts and energy generated by the music to those in need. Ich will euch trösten!

Happy birthday to Tommy, Pete. I'm glad the doctor is taking extra precautions, but truthfully I can't imagine telling any 15-year-old boy to limit weight-bearing! At that age, they tend to ignore advice like that! And I'm glad he is returning to school.

Sis and I are very much enjoying ourselves on day hikes through the southern mountains, Mostly Smoky Mountain National Park. The spring wildflowers are incredible and the creeks are full and singing.

Thanks for all the warm thoughts, white light, and prayers. Mum's still in the hospital, it's ulcerative colitis that had gone untreated for at least four months, and she was sick and tired of being sick and tired, as well as burned out from being my gran's caregiver and not getting any (or enough) help and being really bad about asking for help from the rest of the family. She's part of a double-blind study where they're using a hyperbaric chamber to aid healing. The problem is that it is a double-blind study and she may or may not actually be receiving the oxygen and her doctor doesn't know if she's receiving the oxygen, either. Hopefully it helps.

I hope she is getting some sort of treatment, or at least good care and respite. Doesn't seem likely they would include some one in the study that getting no treatment at all could cause greater harm. In the meantime, take care of yourself!

Watching the geese and mallards on the Oconaluftee River from the balcony of our motel. Headed home tomorrow. Have hiked the high country and the low country in the mountains. Feel satiated. Sent out good thoughts and thoughts of gratitude to and for all of you from the highest point we reached, and imagined this good ship sailing in the clouds that wafted around us, all hands aboard and soaking in the magic of these ancient places.

Not to worry, Janie. They're trying a couple of different therapies for her.

I was feeling a lot less stressed, but then my usually very dependable car broke down on my way back to Maine last night. Luckily, it was in the next town over from my mom's brother's family and my youngest cousin came and rescued me, as well as recommending a good mechanic. I was able to drive the car to the garage, but no one's going to be there until Monday. Silver lining: I got to spend some time with my cousin, who has the house to himself while his parents are away on vacation, and we talked until the wee hours of the morning. Conversation continued today, as well as a lesson on how to use some of the mysterious buttons on my camera, and he delivered me and Bandit back to my grandmother's this afternoon. Gramma gets the pleasure of my company for a few more days, and I have plenty of leave time saved up, so I'm still getting paid.

My life is welcome to return to boring any time now. Gran to hospital by ambulance this morning. Atrial fibrillation, she's there at least 24 hours. Trying an IV drug to help heart back to normal sinus rhythm, if that doesn't work, internal echo cardiogram to check for blood clots and then a minor shock to see if that does the trick. Good thing car broke down on Friday and stranded me here, otherwise no one would have been here with her. Waiting to hear if Mum will be discharged today, and my car will be fixed tomorrow afternoon.

Oh my, Tami, I guess this is what it takes to be thankful that your car broke down! I hope you mother, grandmother, and car are all fixed up soon and that your life does indeed become dull--or at least normal!
