Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Oct 19 - 09:51 AM I hadn't heard from wysiwyg for a while, and when looking her up on Facebook learned that she is recovering in a hospital now, moving to rehab late next week. That post was from her husband, pointing people to updates from a friend on her Facebook page. Sounds like a stroke. If you're a friend of hers on Facebook look for updates posted by her friend Sabrina. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Donuel Date: 05 Oct 19 - 10:01 AM Oh no, another stroke. May she heal completely like she did before. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 05 Oct 19 - 09:25 PM The thing went well, with about 50 people attending at any one time. I'm sorry for the family, but they are taking it step by step. The youngest, a 4 year old grandson, keeps asking where grandpa is. I'm sorry to hear about wysiwyg and I hope she is on the way to recovery. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 08 Oct 19 - 09:21 PM Well...my youngest nephew, a 1LT in Marine Reserves, has been ordered to up to a year's deployment in Tblisi. While an officer who deals with hearing, water supply, sewage, and other utilities he's still a combat engineer. The Georgia Deployment Program lost three Marine reservists in Afghanistan earlier this year. Neither his father (who got the news today as his birthday present, I guess), his mother, and me are unworried. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: frogprince Date: 11 Oct 19 - 09:50 PM Thanks, Pete & all. The lady and I met for lunch, and talked for two and a half hours. We won't be a couple, but I can't recall ever feeling so positive about something despite a trace of disappointment. We were both really glad that we met in person and talked. I'm back online, seeing what's to be found. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 13 Oct 19 - 08:38 PM Send good thoughts and vibes to gnu in Moncton, NB. Apparently he's in the hospital in pretty sad shape AND his mum died September 27. As you may know, she leaved next to him and he cared for her. I do not know if the two are related. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: maeve Date: 14 Oct 19 - 05:52 AM I've heard back from friend gnu. I'd respectfully suggest that those who care about him allow him to post or not as he wishes. It's a matter of privacy. From what he has told me, he will be ok, and I'll let him know Mudcat friends are concerned. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 14 Oct 19 - 09:23 AM Of course. I just wanted GT&V headed his way. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 14 Oct 19 - 07:31 PM Thank you, Maeve, for those wise words. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 18 Oct 19 - 03:28 PM Sustaining the link between this ship and New Brunswick. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 19 Oct 19 - 03:56 PM A second- or third-hand report to the Mudcat indicates that a bad fall was the reason that Gnu was admitted to hospital, and that he will be there for some time. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Oct 19 - 04:57 PM Gnu is reaching out to friends now with a computer he has with him. Sounding better every day. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Oct 19 - 11:02 AM I have been checking in on Susan Oldberg Hinton's Facebook page (WYSIWYG) and find that since the last time I looked I am no longer a friend, so I can't post a remark asking how she is, and the friend Sabrina, who Greg said to look to for updates, hasn't posted anything for weeks. There are still 16 mutual Mudcat friends who can see more of her account. Please start asking about how she's doing and reach out to her husband if necessary. If she's in rehab it would be nice to know, and to be able to send cards or call (if allowed) directly. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 15 Feb 20 - 06:52 AM Has 'Jane's Rainbow' still a useful part to play on Mudcat or should I ask Joe to close the thread? There is no doubt in my mind that since I first posted on 12th January, 2012, the 'Rainbow' has served our community well. However, as you can see, the last post (no pun intended) was from Stilly River Sage on 25th October, 2019, so have we come to the end of our glorious voyage? Please let me know your thoughts. Nigel Paterson. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Donuel Date: 15 Feb 20 - 07:49 AM In other words, Has empathy died alone and abandoned? Nigel wants the thread euthanized or declared dead. Should Joe pull the plug? I vote for inaction. Especially in the coming months of Covid 19 travails |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 15 Feb 20 - 07:15 PM Its certainly dropped off , and been a few months since the post before yours Nigel. Personally , I have looked in quite often when someone’s posted, even if I’ve not commented. If closing this would bring some sort of closure for you ,not that losing a loved one is ever forgotten , then that would be fine with me : something else could always be started . Blessings all. Pete |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 15 Feb 20 - 08:52 PM beautifully expressed, Pete |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 16 Feb 20 - 05:44 AM To be perfectly clear, I most certainly do not want this thread to be "...euthanised or declared dead". Because I relinquished my stewardship of Jane's Rainbow some time ago, leaving the thread to self-perpetuate, thereby shifting the emphasis from 'my thread' to 'our thread', I felt the right thing to do was to seek opinions. My wish is for Jane's Rainbow to remain accessible to all. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 16 Feb 20 - 09:57 PM I see no reason to end it. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 17 Feb 20 - 06:44 AM Nor do I. What Pete said. PS As for me, I am still recuperating, as best I can in the frozen Acadian Forest. Spring will (eventually) spring and I should be able to use a wheeled walker in the out-of-doors such that I can gain leg/back strength. Thanks for all the well wishes. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 18 Feb 20 - 03:27 AM Pete, thank you for your kind words. You have always reached out to others, even when your personal circumstances were close to overwhelming. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 19 Feb 20 - 03:47 PM Thanks Nigel , that’s very kind of you . We still miss Tommy , as I’m sure you , Jane , and others bereaved on their voyage on the Rainbow . Sadly , it’s likely we will lose our current foster child at some point , and he has had some close calls and is in hospital a lot , with Becky with him most of the time . But it’s ongoing and daniel might do better and live longer than expected , just as Tommy did |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Mar 20 - 07:35 PM Thanks, Keb, I hadn't thought to look in here for a while. I'm nearly a month out and many of the more difficult parts of knee replacement are over; no more deep vein thrombosis cuffs, or rigorous physical therapy (when she left I was sometimes sore for a couple of days). But now it is battling the effects of long-term pain killers and heavy-duty antibiotics, and the daily urge to do too much (walking) and paying for it for hours or days after. The whole world needs to take a long break. Literally. Who knew it would ever come to this—well, some smart people did, but they were Casandras in this world of populist government officials who don't know how to govern or how to listen to scientists. Stay healthy and safe, everyone. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 23 Mar 20 - 08:02 PM a friend gave me this verse a few days ago Death leaves an ache that no one can heal, Love leave a memory that no one can steal. google says it comes from an Irish headstone, & it appears to be a common saying, so it might have been posted before. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 24 Mar 20 - 05:53 AM Thank you for your kind words, Pete. Your generosity of spirit marks you out as one, very special man. Sandra, those two lines are beautiful & priceless. The true origin of sayings like this are often impossible to identify with any certainty, but someone, somewhere DID write those lines for the first time & how wonderful that they did. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 24 Mar 20 - 07:45 PM Beautiful couplet Sandra ; don't think I've seen that sentiment expressed so well in so few words |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Mar 20 - 10:48 AM Those kinds of anniversaries are heartbreaking to observe. A little over six weeks out from the knee replacement and I managed my first night's sleep without the narcotic painkiller. There was a tough spot in the wee hours when the Rx Ibuprofen wore off and everything felt awful, but the next dose kicked in after about 30 minutes. Note to self to overlap them a bit to avoid that again. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 26 Mar 20 - 08:15 PM So here we are, all aboard the Rainbow, in such troubled waters such as we have never known before. 7 years since Jane left us and since then her boat has given so much love and help to so many. All our troubles have been supported and lessened by so much love by this wonderful crew. I have had so much support, while my husband had treatmdnt for leukaemia and the support I had lookimg after my mother for 5 years when she had dementia. The love from you all kept me going whem the situation was so very difficalt. Now we all face very frightening times, here in the UK we are confined in our house for who knows how long? Although Billy is in remission it is un wise for us to go out, we rely on others to buy food and essentials. Our daughter who is on chemotherapy for Crohns has been told to stay indoors for 3 months and is in isolation with her 2 daughters and we cannot help or see them. Our step grandaughter is a nurse in London nursing coronavirus patients. She is working 100 hours a week and is exausted. But we know others have more desperate situations, so all my prayers and loving thoughts go out to everyone who is trouble ,frightened and may be alone with no support. So sail on Rainbow bring us all into safe harbour as soon as you can. Fondest love Wendy xxxxx |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 27 Mar 20 - 12:32 PM My Dear Wendy, I missed our rendezvous aboard The Rainbow last night. When I tried to logon, the site was down. After that, an ageing brain, coupled with increasingly heavy eyelids, put paid to the rest of my evening. You still retain your optimistic, glass half full attitude, despite everything that has happened & continues to happen in your life. It is your positivity that has endeared you to so many, here on Jane's Rainbow. Like you, Ann & I are in isolation for three months & like you, we rely on friends & a neighbour for our supplies. Having spent a day with you & Bill the other year, I look forward to the time when we can meet again, freely & cheerfully, with nothing more to bother us than removing some sand from between our toes. Much Love to you, Bill & your family, Keep well, stay safe, Nigel & Ann xxx |
