Subject: Chord Req: Everything Is Hotsy Totsy Now
From: GUEST,Martunes

Hi all,
Happy New Year.

I know this is not quite a folk/blues issue but i'm at my wits end. (which isn't too far a trip lately).
I have been searching for chords for Captain Matchbox & His Whooppee Band's version of 'Everything Is Hotsy Totsy Now' for years. I've tracked down a barely legible copy of the sheet music at the public library but it comes with unmarked uke chords and there seem to be some I can't identify. I've managed to get only so far with the transcription but it doesn't sound right to my ear. Can someone either point me to a transcription of Captain Matchbox's version or help me with the one below. Thanks. M

Take a look at me. I'm busy as a bee.
I got a lot to do, do, doodly do.
I'm gonna build a home, a cozy little home,
Just room enough for two, two, toodly two.
There's ... add a limb on the family tree.
I've found a girl as sweet as she could be.
So everything is jake. What a lucky break!
I'm in for some sweet time...

[G7]got myself a [C]brand new hotsy.
[?]I'm her totsy. [G]She's my hotsy.
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now. [G]

[G7]What I did was [C]pop the question.
[?]She said, "What a [G]great suggestion!"
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now. [G]

[B7]No more cryin'. [B7]No more sighin'.
[E7]I'm through with the [E7]blues.
[A7]Does she love me, [A7]turtledove me?
[A7]I'll tell the world she do, [D7]

[G7]What I did was [C]pop the question.
[?]She said, "What a [G]great suggestion!"
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now. [G]

I've [G7]got myself a [C]brand new hotsy.
[?]I'm her totsy. [G]She's my hotsy.
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now. [G]

Instrumental

Ever since I fell I'm on a carousel
I'm dizzy as can be, be badly be
Walking on the air, but I don't give a care
The way they're kidding me, me medley me
They would do the same for a girl like mine
So I can't be blamed for feeling fine
The minute that we met, everything was set
I'm in for some sweet time.

I've [G7]got myself a [C]brand new hotsy.
[?]I'm her totsy. [G]She's my hotsy.
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now.

[G7]got myself a [C]brand new hotsy.
[?]I'm her totsy. [G]She's my hotsy.
[G]Everything is [D7]hotsy-totsy now. [G]

I don't know the version you refer to, but I'll post from another version. There are several recordings on youtube, mostly instrumental, but you can hear the writers - Jimmy McHugh and Irving Mills as The Hotsy Totsy Boys - on the redhotjazz site: The Hotsy Totsy Boys. I've posted a transcription of their version below, with a set of chords. (I'm pretty confident of most of the words, except for the Say I've loved others... section).

Mick

EVERYTHING IS HOTSY TOTSY NOW
(Jimmy McHugh/Irving Mills)

(Em)Take a look at me, I'm busy as a bee,
I got a lot to (B7+5)do, do, do.
(Em)I'm gonna build a home, a cozy little home,
Just room enough for (B7+5)two, two, two.
Say I'm (E7)gonna add a limb on the (Am)family tree -
(B7)Found a girl as sweet as (Em)she could be.
(Em)So everything is jake. What a lucky break!
I'm (A7)happy (*A9)as can (D7)be.

Cos I (G)got myself a (C6)brand new hotsy.
(Am7/C)I'm her totsy. (C6)She's my hotsy.
(G)Every-(Em7)thing is (Am7)hotsy-(D7)totsy (G) now. (D7)

What I did was pop the question.
She said, "What a great suggestion!"
Everything is hotsy-totsy now.

(B7)No more cryin'. (B7)No more sighin'.
(E7)I'm through with the (E7)blues.
(A7)Does she love me, (A7)turtledove me?
(D7)I'll tell the world she do, do, do.

I've got myself a brand new hotsy.
I'm her totsy and she's my hotsy.
Everything is hotsy-totsy now.

I said I've got myself a brand new totsy.
I'm her hotsy, she's my totsy.
Everything is hotsy-totsy now.

I've bought the ring for Totsy's finger
Just the thing a real humdinger
And everything is hotsy-totsy now

So long sadness, hello gladness
You're welcome I vow
Every little thing is peaches
Down in Georgia now

Cos I got myself a brand new totsy
I'm her hotsy, she's my totsy
And everything is hotsy-totsy now.

<instrumental/kazoo break>

Said I got myself a brand new hotsy
I'm her totsy, she's my hotsy
Everything is hotsy-totsy now.

And when we spoon she don't say stopsie
Don't call momsie or her popsie
Everything is hotsy-totsy now.

Say I've loved others, but O brothers
Their love was mild?
And I'm sure they're happy about my sweet perfy?
She's driving me wild

At ten o'clock I say I do
But I'm still there at half-past two
So everything is hotsy-totsy now.

* = optional. You can simplify chords if you wish A9->A7, C6->C. If you can though, keep the B7 augmented chord (B7+5) - it will sound better than B7.

Mick,
Thank you so much.
I've been going crazy trying to do this myself.
