Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: TheSnail Date: 19 Jan 12 - 12:12 PM Both the port of Shoreham and Chichester Harbour are closer to Guildford than the given answer but I couldn't find anything fitting the theme named after either of them. There is a village called Apuldram on the edge of Chichester Harbour. Will that do? |

Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: gnu Date: 16 Jan 12 - 08:14 PM Nigel... I cannot do that because I was making a (poor) joke. I haven't a clue. Nor would I even try. I am just a nunc, whatever that is. |
Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Genie Date: 16 Jan 12 - 06:17 PM Being an Umerrican, I had to do some online research to come up with a few of the answers that a Brit might know offhand. Being a geezer, I had no trouble with #19. A couple- #2, #6 - I wasn't sure of, even after doing my internet research , but used the over-all theme to zero in on the likely answer. I also had to do a bit of internet searching to see how some answers fit with the theme, because I wasn't aware of the connection. This may have to do with some of my customary habits and non-habits. I still have no clue about #3 and I had to guess at #5 (and my answer still doesn't seem to fit with the theme or to fit all three people well). And #8 is a guess, based purely on the theme (which the thread title not-so-subtly hints at). Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Jan 12 - 10:36 AM Snuffy strides in with 19/20. Only caught by Q6. Googling "barristers" & "Black" will get comments about Charles II but that isn't a whisky, and not all 'hits' get Charles II. It's the other answer! |
Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:17 AM And a warning for others, Q10 relies on an alternate spelling of a surname. (I didn't spot that when writing) |
Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:15 AM 15/20 for The Walrus. Thanks Tom. "Proof" for no1 may (sort of) fit the theme, but it doesn't answer the question. Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Nigel Parsons Date: 15 Jan 12 - 08:29 PM Guest, Eliza (Whoa, Eliza, littl Liza Jane) PMs are 'personal messages sent between members. I'll accept your claim for a 20/20, although the best that has been PM'd to me is an 18/20 (or 17 + 2*1/2). Once I post the answers in the answer thread SQ2 you'll be able to check your actual score. The thread SQ2 contains the answers to many previous quizzes, and (in most cases) links ('blue clickies') to the original quizzes. I have stated before that I'm quite happy for these quizzes to be re-used,particularly if they raise money for charity. Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Joe_F Date: 15 Jan 12 - 04:03 PM While in Scotland long ago, I experienced an unsavoury version of No. 14, in which the sausage was omitted and I believe sawdust was used in place of breadcrumbs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 15 Jan 12 - 03:28 PM Nigel, I've done the quiz (and enjoyed it very much!) but I'm only a Guest and can't send you my effort. Never mind, I think I got them all correct. It passed a happy ten minutes, so thank you! |

Subject: BS: Quiz - nunc est bibendum From: Nigel Parsons Date: 15 Jan 12 - 02:12 PM Another new quiz where there is an unstated theme running through all the answers. Spotting the theme should make the quiz simpler. As usual, comments are welcome, but PLEASE DO NOT POST ANSWERS IN THE THREAD! If you want to PM me with a list of answers I will score them. Answers will be posted in my usual answer thread in about a week.
