Just put on a another children's musical. "Thaumaturgy" (wonder-making) It was about inventions and discoveries. For the invention of steam power I re-wrote "Funiculi Funicular" -- The Italian song celebrating the building of a funicular railway. The kids sang it like Italian opera singers.
I'm rather proud of the result and I thought I'd share it.

FUNICULI FUNICULA

Let's ride the cable-car up on the mountain
It goes up high. Into the sky.
The steam it rises up just like a fountain
Oh me oh my. We're gonna fly.
Clear skies and we can have a love-ely view
And from the shop that's on the top
You can buy a souvenir or possibly two
You can stop and eat a chop.

CHORUS:
Listen. Listen. Hear the people call
Don't lean far out or you'll surely fall.
Funiculi Funicula. Funiculi Funicula.
Tra la la la la Funiculi Funicula.

Band plays. Take off your clothes except your undies
The ladies dance in lacy pants
Do things you wouldn't do on other Sundies
Take a chance, your life enhance.
Downwards we take the car as night is falling
Below, below we're gonna go
Keep your head inside it's most appalling
To lose it so and never know.

Chorus

Cheers, Joy

I maybe should have spelled Sundays as Sundees. The children learn the songs by ear so it's not a problem. Here in Aus. many older people pronounce Sunday this way but that's changing.
Cheers, Joy

A longtime ago, British comedian and singer Ken Dodd did a version that include the lines

Funiculi Funicula. Funiculi Funicula.
They said I should be strangled in the strings of my guitar.

and

Funiculi Funicula. Funiculi Funicula.
Take your elbows off the table please remember where you are.

Joy, Lovely to see your name and realise you are still producing your wonderful shows, some one whose name I can't recall did a version about the London-Brighton Vintage Car Rally:-

They laughed at you, they laughed at me,
The laughed at Ma, they laughed at Pa,
When we went to Brighton in our famous motor-car!

Keep up the good work.

Love, Brian & Sheila Q

Thanks, TheSnail and Brian. The song lends itself to parody well. Yes, Nigel I had trouble geting that version out of my head. True-love too.
Hello Brian and Sheila. Yes, I have to keep myself under strict control these days. Hildebrand can't keep up the pace for the big shows anymore. Now I just write and produce a children's show once a year for our local community. I do enjoy working with adults, and I love to perform myself but the kids and the writing give me great pleasure.
Love, Joy
