Subject: RE: Obit: Bellingham busker boy hanged From: Amos Date: 16 Jan 12 - 12:55 PM SUDDEN VALLEY - A 10-year-old boy died at Harborview Medical Center Tuesday evening, Jan. 10, from injuries he suffered during an apparent accidental hanging at his home in Sudden Valley the day before. Caleb Kors, a budding street and circus performer who often busked at the Bellingham Farmers Market, was airlifted to the Seattle hospital Monday after he was injured at the family's home on North Summit Drive. Kors, under his stage name "Flip," performed acrobatics and juggling tricks with the Bellingham Circus Guild. [1] A 10-year-old street performer has died after accidentally hanging himself in his bedroom. Caleb 'Flip' Kors, who was well-known for his juggling, magic and acrobatic tricks at the weekly farmers market in Bellingham, Washington, was found next to some acrobatic equipment. Initial reports suggested he had been practising a trick, although it has also been claimed he had been scrambling around collecting material for a new costume. He was rushed from his home in Sudden Valley to a Bellingham hospital after the accident on Monday before being airlifted to Seattle's main trauma center. Whatcom County Sheriff's Department said the death happened accidentally in his room, amid assembled acrobatic equipment. [2] |
Subject: RE: Obit: Bellingham busker boy hanged From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Jan 12 - 01:09 PM That's so sad. I rarely hear stories about this part of the state, let alone the end of the lake I consider home, and it's to report the death of a child. SRS |
Subject: RE: Obit: Bellingham busker boy hanged From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 16 Jan 12 - 01:27 PM I couldn't see obvious links to his performances in the link at the top. but I did find this. I can't see what he's doing most of the time, but he looks like an engaging chap. Plenty of buskers would be happy if they could bring passers by to a standstill. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Bellingham busker boy accidentally hanged From: Genie Date: 16 Jan 12 - 04:47 PM Caleb Kors juggling on man's shoulders This act of Caleb's looks more like the kind of thing that could lead to an accidental hanging: Flip and Strangely (Bellingham Circus Guild) I'm sure Caleb's parents don't need any more grief right now, but it does occur to me that it's not very safe for acrobatic performers to learn or practice new tricks without someone around in case of accident or injury. |

Every gymnast, polevaulter, circus performer has a "spotter" when practicing. It is common sense.
But what 10 y.o. has common sense?
Sincerely, The most peculiar aspect ... as the story unfolds ... is the insistance that the child "was looking for piece to add to his costume." Those involved know that "criminal charges" are pending...but the Canadian border is 30 minutes away. |
