The only Wickford Express CD I've found is Fair Winds: Traditional Sea Songs and Chanteys I got it on a budget Laserlight reissue. I really like it, and I'd love to have any other Wickford Express recordings that are available.
Cindy, Mudcat's Dick Greenhaus operates CAMSCO Music. Dick does a number of small-quantity reissues, and he does good work.

Wickford Express cds have been out-of-print for many years now and the ones sold on Amazon are being sold by collectors and priced up to $200 each.

I've often thought of re-releasing the cds, since I own all publishing rights, but I just haven't found the time to do so. I do have a very limited number of both "Away You Santy," and "Fair Winds" available, and get lots of requests for them! Perhaps I should go to auction with them, use the proceeds to re-publish the cds. Ideas?

Hi, Dave and Everett still play together from time to time under the guise Compass Rose. In fact, Dave Peloquin who frequently performs now with Bob Webb has performed with Everett Brown and Barnacle on several occasions. Everett plays with Barnacle and still performs with Jon Campbell as well as other performers.

Wickford Express Cds are still available on Amazon. Cindy, Dave, and Ev are quite wonderful! :)

Thanks for the shout-out! Those were incredible, wonderful, magical times spent with your family on the Cape - and always fondly recalled. I love that you are continuing your parents' tradition of hospitality and generosity of spirit - a grand and immeasurably valuable way to support the arts! I recall that you and your sister were quite young when we started visiting - have some great pictures of your entire family playing music with us, using our foo-foo box instruments, lots of fun.

Everett Brown is now part of the wonderful group Barnacle. You should be able to find Barnacle on MySpace. For all I know he may work with others too.

As a child, growing up on Cape Cod, my parents often had overnight guests. Some of these guests were from the Heritage Plantation, and some of them were from Mystic Seaport. Many of these visiting friends were musicians. The List is distinguished, but standouts include The Wickford Express. Although I was young I remember Everett having a helmet with horns on it, some craziness, and wonderful sea shanties (I always cried when they threw the old horse overboard). It is because of all of these people that music has continued to be a part of my life, and I have continued the tradition of my parents of hosting music and musicians. Thank You Wickford Express!

In addition to the usual "women's songs like Fisherman's Wife and all those other "I'm so faithful as I pine away in sorrow for my man gone to sea" ballads, there are some pretty fun ones with female themes.

Most common of these is the "girl posing as boy" stuff like Handsome Cabin boy and the like.

There's even a group down in DC called Pyrates Royale (they even have a web page) that specializes in songs about... you guessed it: piracy. Anyway, their lead female singer does a female/pirate version of Plains of Mexico that starts with a line something like (and I quote from memory, so I'm probably off a bit, but you'll get the idea):

A woman's not allowed at sea
Heave away, Santianno
And so I turned to piracy
All off the coast of Mexico...

Well, you get the idea.

Hi Cindy, take care not to let that one bone fall through the planks & drown (& you thought it was a riot). As far as an all women shanty group, great. There are quite a few women shanting (is that a word?) nowadays but there were always women (Heather Wood, Frankie Armstrong among the many besides yourself) who sang these, who gives a $#@%& if it's good. What about giving some of the West Indian stuff a go? Good Luck. Barry

Hey there, my ears have been ringing! Could be from too much banjo-playing, but I think otherwise...someone's been talking about me. How wonderful! And nice to see new interest in women's sea music. Cool, errrrr....Hot! As reported, I am singing with a group of women but this is mostly an old-timey, trad group. However, the all-women sea shanty group is 'under construction.' As one of the pioneering female singers in this predominately male genre, I have witnessed some, shall I say, "strong opinions?" over the years. So, I would love feedback as to people's feelings and thoughts regarding the repertoire of an all-women sea shanty group...shanties, sea songs, ballads, women-focused songs? If anyone has a favorite or obscure song they think would be good for an all-women's group, please send it along to me at [e-mail]. As regards Wickford Express, we are definitely still on the scene, just not as publicly, doing mostly private functions and concerts. A 'best of' CD is in the planning stage, with 3 or 4 new tracks being laid down. Whew! Enough, already. Thanks for remembering me; hope to hear from folks!

I remember The Liverpool Judies very well, particularly the perky little lass who did the car traffic reports on the radio in Philly, Caryl Weiss. I believe she died of cancer a few years ago. What a terrible shame!

Alison Kelley is fantastic, she started off at South Street Seaport sings, I believe. She's done the Mystic Sea Music Festival twice (once not on the list of performers). Very strong alto voice. She could sing some great blues if she wanted to.

We have some new women's sea music groups in New York City: Ida Red like the apples, and Johnson Girls. The two groups overlap a bit in membership (i.e., the incomparable Alison Kelley), and they perform regularly.

Wickford Express CD's are available directly from the band, [e-mail] -- that's only the email, don't know if they have a homepage. But you can order through that address. By the way, the band Wickford Express IS STILL playing together, never broke up, -- I've caught their concerts several times this summer. I think this rumor started when Cindy took a leave of absence and went off to school or something like that. My understanding is that when Dave, Everett, and Dan have to perform without Cindy, they go by Compass Rose and when she is performing with them it is Wickford Express. Cindy also has a busy solo career going and I've heard her several times recently sitting in with a few of the local accoustic bands here in Newport,RI. That's what I hear.

That's right, Dan. The last time I had the good fortune of meeting up with Wickford express as a group was at New York City's Little Red Lighthouse Festival about 3 years ago, when I became acquainted with Dave Peloquin (whom I saw again two years ago at the Mystic Festival).

I have two of their albums, and I must say that their rendition of Farewell Nancy is by far the most beautiful I ever heard. I'm sorry to hear they've disbanded, but I'm looking forward to future gems from its now-separate members.

Liams's Sister-in-Law tells me that Wickford Express broke up... likewise the Peloquins. Dave, Everett & Dan have a group under a different name; I don't recall what that is. Cindy, whom I recall as a very fine person, may not be making music anymore.

This excellent group of sea shanty singers has been around since the early 1980's and have a few recordings out. Seeking information, comments, about the group, and where are CD's available? For years they were the highlight of Mystic Seaport's Sea Music Festival in CT, but I haven't seen them listed there the last couple of years. Anyone know anything? Players were, I believe, Cindy & Dave Peloquin, Everett Brown, Dan Lanier, Alan Bradbury? Would love to hear them again!
