If it is available for sale at Amazon, buy a copy and they give you a digital version that you can listen to via Amazon Music or download. Or both.

If you can attach a phono->mini-jack from your record player to your computer, you can use an audio program like Audacity or Mac's Garageband to play it and record at the same time.

Quite right, Owen - it wasn't a cut-price record stall, just a stall selling records at more or less standard price! It sticks in my mind because it was the very first LP I ever bought.

Will, the disc was sort of budget-mid price, so the normal retail value wouldn't have been much more than a quid. I got my copy from a record shop shortly after it was released, and I think I paid £1-2/6d.

I did once pick up the CBS release of Robert Johnson King of the Delta Blues Singers from a market stall though. I was delighted because not only was it priced a good bit below the shop price, it was so hot off the press I didn't know it had been released.

Plus, of all the records in my collection, that was the one which would have given my father the most joy, had he been able to set fire to it.

I have a copy, at least I hope I still have but it's up in the loft and I have nothing to play it on. Bought about 1965 after seeing them on TV.

Thanks for all the rapid responses. I did look at Discogs. BCB1 obviously didn't fit. BCB2 I wasn't sure of as sleeve wasn't shown I didn't know label. BCB3 clinches it as this is sleeve I recall and matches Owen's tack listing.

Thanks again
Mike

I have the very same album - bought for £1 on a Leicester Market record stall in 1964.

Back Country Blues was the very first Blues LP I ever owned and it's still one of the most memorable.

Here's the discographical info as I have for it.

Brownie McGhee. Sonny Terry. Back Country Blues. Realm RM 165
A 1. Gone Baby, Gone. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca
A 2. Tell Me, Baby. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca
A 3. Sittin' Pretty (Sittin' on top of the World). Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca
A 4. Bottom Blues. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca
A 5. Dissatisfied Blues. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr
A 6. Diamond Ring (Betty & Dupree). Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr
B 1. The Way I Feel. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr
B 2. So Much Trouble. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr
B 3. When It's Love Time. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca/Mickey Baker, gtr/Leonard Gaskin bs/Ernest Hayes pno/Eugene Brookes, dms
B 4. I'd Love To Love You. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca/Mickey Baker, gtr/Leonard Gaskin bs/Ernest Hayes pno/Eugene Brookes, dms
B 5. Love's A Disease. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca/Mickey Baker, gtr/Leonard Gaskin bs/Ernest Hayes pno/Eugene Brookes, dms
B 6. My Fault. Brownie McGhee, vcl, gtr/Sonny Terry, hca/Mickey Baker, gtr/Leonard Gaskin bs/Ernest Hayes pno/Eugene Brookes, dms

Without checking, and as far as I remember, the original recordings were made by the American Savoy label in the early mid-50s, and reissued on British Realm in the early 1960s. The front and back covers were as shown in Mick's BCB 3.

BTW. BCB 1. Musidisc was/is(?) a cheap French label. From the catalogue info (Musidisc – 30 CV 956, Musidisc – CV 956) it would appear to have been available on LP and cassette only.

There are a few listings for the lp. For example

BCB1 - new release by the look of it

and

BCB2. This may be the original. There are more details here, including shots of the cover, liner notes and labels:

BCB3.

Does any of this last one look familiar?

Mick

Hello, aren't the discog.ones on Google the ones you mean. Minor apologies if this is a silly question.

I am just starting out on composing a personal musical history. Something I hope might be of interest to my two children at some time in the future, explaining my obsession with music and the constant torrent of very varied music they are "exposed" to. One area I need to examine is how my interest in blues came about as a young lad brought up in the Yorkshire Dales.

One particular stimulus was an LP of my slightly older cousin I heard while on a visit. I am fairly sure it was called Back Country Blues, definitely by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. I can't find any mention of it in any of the searches I have done. Also can't recognise any of the tracks in the presently available catalogue. Does any one happen to know the track listing for it?
