Jon, As I noted up above, a lot of current vehicles are based on the Citroen D types. It takes a while to "get it." The first time I ever saw one, I though it looked like an oyster trying to swallow a duck. When I was selling them, I ended up being the top salesman of Citroens in the US for '71 and '72. I even ended up owning two of them.

Well, I am involved with the Nissan Juke in a working capacity and it is a very comfortable car, but like many cars these days it is a triumph of styling over style.

Very unlike my own Jaguar XJ8 Executive, which, along with the Mk1 Ford Cortina are probably the best looking cars ever made.

Of Lancias I much prefer the Flaminia Pininfarina coupe.

I always liked the 1953 Sunbeam Alpine, too.

But, hey, we've all forgotten the lovely little 1932/33 Vale Special

PDQ, that Plymouth wagon may have been a little "over the top", though no more so than a major share of the U.S. cars about then, and it may not be one of the all-time greats, but I would never consider it to be one of the true uglies.
Just think, you could be haunted by memories of THIS , or THIS

gnu is apparently of the "beauty is as beauty does" persuasion.
I hate to admit it, but Chongo is a chimp after my own heart so far as his automotive taste. And I'm with gillymor right down the line. And yes, Packard put together some lovely iron; too bad that all ended with a pitiful whimper.

Jaguar XK 120 Drophead and early 60's fixedhead E-type
Early 60's Ferraris

Two that really stand out: Auburn Boatailed Speedster and a 135 Delahaye

1949 Straight 8 Continental
Frogster, you beat me to the Avions Voisin but as a certain wag once wrote, "One man's meat is another man's poison, My favorite car is the Avions Voisin."--Ogden Nash
With Citroen D types, it is necessary that you grow to appreciate them but if you consider the number of current vehicles based upon the styling concepts, it is probably the most seminal design ever.

Don Firth hit another great one. I remember the 1930s Packard my father had. It was good on the back roads and tracks going to trout-fishing spots. The trunk area was large and he fixed the back of it with wooden ammunition boxes to carry basic food and camp cooking material. He would pick up a fishing buddy, buy a few perishables and a few bottles of the good stuff. I would occupy the back seat with the fly rods and tackle and off we would go. He put in a few bottles of Delaware Punch for me- no, I was too young for the good stuff.

Also on the really nice list, Raymond Lowey nailed it twice with Studebakers: once with the '53 coupe that Bobert mentioned, once with the Avanti as PDQ noted. A few months ago I saw a reference to the Avanti as butt ugly; I know things like this are subjective, but I can't understand that reaction at all.

A bud of mine painted his 1980s Alfa Romeo with primer in spray cans so it would look like crap. It did. He took me for a drive on the shore highway north of Halifax. What a rush!

The best fun was when a Newfie buddy of mine took me for a run in his 1980s Merc diesel on the same kinda windy road on the SW coast of NF... 80mph on winding dirt roads and that sucker hugged the ground. Heavy rig. Even cooler (sorry) was when he turned the AC on max and it started snowing in the car. It was silver, of course.

Now, pretty? Well, a black 20009 Chrysler 300 LTD... when you walk by it, the grill sparkles in the sunlight like the sun sparkles off water waves. It turns heads. Them Germans, eh? It's got shit for vision in town and I wouldn't buy one, but it sure turns heads.

A friend had a BMW from that period, and loved it. I couldn't begin to say just what model it was now. A nice clean, attractive little car. For something that expensive, the style always reminded me of the original Chevy Corvair. But however you rated the Corvair overall, I always thought it was decently styled.

Catspaw, the Metropolitan Museum also featured the 1972 BMW 3.0CS coupe, painted by that guy that did all those mobiles and stuff.
My brain ain't working today, so somebody can furnish his name.

I had this car (minus the fancy paintwork), bought when I got lucky on some stock, and it is still owned by a son. Best car ever built, after the Duesenberg.

Regardless of how the Juke is re-re-re-designed, it still looks awful.

The Aerotrain really may take the cake for sheer beauty in industrial design, but it isn't a car.
I took a look at the Nissan "Joke" and decided that anything that tried that hard to be ugly deserved to be even uglier, so I had a little fun with Photoshop. The Juke may not be the ugliest car ever, but I'm not aware of an uglier one in current production.
Historically speaking, the French have given us at least their share of genuinely stunning automotive designs. The Citreon 2cv has been mentioned. I don't know that any one manufacturer has produced more absolute jewels than VOISIN .

Yesterday I was waiting at a red light when an automobile carrier rattled past on the green. It was completely empty except for one car perched in glory on the last slot high up on the end. It was a 1955 Chevy, blue and white. I thought it was a BelAir, but the BelAir seems to have fins. This car had neat and tidy lines.

That's one of my favorite cars. It says "Daddy is going to take us out for a drive."

E type looks oddly narrow today.
Prettiest of the P5s to my eye would be the P5B coupe. It looks quite a lot like the Chrysler 300C of today.
The Mark VII, VII and IX Jags were pretty too, and the 3.8 Mk2.
And the Bentley S series.

How about the Marcos 1800?

Renault Floride was widely admired in its day.
SS100 definitely a classic.
4 1/2 litre low chassis Invicta
I'm not keen on many yank tanks, but SJ Deuse quite fanciable or maybe the Studebaker Golden Hawk
FIAT 124 Sport Coupe or Sport Spyder both nice - B series prettier than C series although C series were better cars.
Fiat 130 Coupe was gorgeous to look at even though it rotted very fast and many engines flew apart.
Several possibilities from Maserati.
Lamborghini Miura
Facel Vega HK500
Piper GTT
Rolls Royce Silver Cloud (single headlight model)
4 1/2 litre Bentley
Alvis TA14
Hustler (a UK kit car designed by Towns)
