Subject: RE: Letters to The Mudcat Agony Aunt From: GUEST,Sadly in Salford Date: 27 Jan 12 - 03:14 AM Dear Mudcat Agony Aunt, as I am a great fan of the late Ewan MacColl all those criticism of his attitudes to Bob Dylan and others makes my heart weep. I am aware that this is going on for so long that it can be seen as a tradition of it`s own but it is so unfair! And since Bob Dylan is often referred to as "his Bobness" by his fans I think we MacColleagues can claim a little respect for us and our idol too. Therefore I propose that we introduce his birthday as a national holiday, calling it St. Ewan`s Day. No big festvities needed (he would not like to have his day commercialzed) but for that one day in the year no dissing of Ewan MacColl should be allowed. Am I asking too much ? Sadly in Salford |

I have thought that it was more likely that Don meant "Ruby Tuesday", a hit for the Rolling Stones in 1966 - And, of course, The Rolling Stones were a group that Ewan MacColl* was known to dislike. *This is much more like it.... five mentions of his name already in this thread. |

Subject: RE: Letters to The Mudcat Agony Aunt From: Will Fly Date: 26 Jan 12 - 07:22 AM I always thought Mudcatia Irresolvia was a kind of herbacious weed that flourished in dark corners of the internet. Perhaps we can continue the conversation at the Royal Oak this evening - you know - while I assemble the music stand, spill sheets from my music folder, endlessly tune my guitar, start tunes two or three times and whistle Ewan MacColl's "Greatest hits"... |

Subject: RE: Letters to The Mudcat Agony Aunt From: Vic Smith Date: 26 Jan 12 - 07:00 AM Dear Auntie Mudcat, Surely you mean Kate Rusby? I am already feeling confused enough without you adding to it with your badly constructed and poorly spelled posts. If you don't check your posts properly, how on earth do you expect to those who are suffering from..... Ah! Wait a minute! I am feeling better already. Nothing like an angry post on Mudcat to improve the mood. |
Subject: Letters to Mudcat Agony Aunt From: Vic Smith Date: 26 Jan 12 - 06:47 AM Dear Mudcat Agony Aunt, With the disappearance below the line of the Dylan-related thread, there are currently no Ewan MacColl related threads on Mudcat. Without my daily dose of these pointless discussions, I feel listless, dizzy, jumpy and depressed. I get headaches and I have lost my appetite. Please can you help? Worried of Lewes Dear Worried of Lewes. You are clearly suffering from the condition known as Mudcatia Irresolvia. I'd better try to explain that in layman's terms. You are in a position where you need a daily fix of reading posts around a subject - in your case Ewan MacColl - subjects that simply cannot be resolved because the mere mention of that name brings forth unchanging opinions from entrenched positions posted by the usual suspects. Sadly this can become addictive and your symptoms suggest that this is what has happened in your case. You should try to bear in mind that Ewan MacColl died around 23 years ago and arguments about him cannot go on for ever. Now, ideally, I would like to see you withdrawing from your bad case of Mudcatia Irresolvia but I don't think that you will be able to do this overnight. I can see that you are already having 'cold turkey' reactions. I am going to suggest that you attach yourself to another, more contemporary of the "pointless discussions" as you yourself describe them. Certainly there should be enough on Mudcat to keep the average British folkie irritated. Try looking for threads around the following subjects:- * Can the Unthanks sing in tune? * Is Kate Ruby seriously over-rated? * Why on earth are there such things as the BBC Folk Awards. I hope that this advice has been of some help to you. Please let me know how you get on. best wishes Auntie Mudcat |
